If there is no father named on the certificate and the two names "Geoffrey" and "Hawley" are in the same column then they are first and middle names and his surname would be Edwards.

However quite a few unmarried mothers gave their child the surname of the father as a middle name so there is a possibility that "Hawley" might just be the father's surname. However there is no way of knowing this for certain unless someone in the family has any information.

i have had a birth cert come today with geoffrey hawley not sure if this is surname or middle name mothers name wininfred edwards. they lived at 118 birrell road nottingham, he was born in 1930. it also says that he has been adopted. can anyone help please want to try and trace him asap.
