From 1871 - 1911 there is a family named WOOD living at Westfield Farm, Wakefield. The farmer, George Wood b.1836 in Greetland is the son of Ephraim and Ann of Slaithwaite. George's son George Frederick has taken over the farm by 1891. I am trying to establish a relationship between this family and my great-grandmother Jennie Wood who was in service in Stanley-cum-Wrenthorpe but gives the farm as her address upon her marriage in 1892. Any help much appreciated. Thank you. |

Many thanks to everybody who has replied here. My problem is connecting Jennie Illingworth (nee Wood) b. 1872 in Leeds to the family at the farm. I have never been able to find a birth certificate for Jennie and I cannot find her in the 1881 census either (she appears from 1891 - 1911). I know that her first name wasn't actually Jennie but I don't know what it was. However she uses Jennie on her marriage certificate and in the later censuses. She married George Atkinson Illingworth at St. John's in Wakefield in 1892. She names her father as John Wood, deceased. The family understood her to be an orphan raised by an aunt but no one knows exactly where they lived (Leeds area is presumed) or the name of the aunt. All guidance gratefully accepted! Thanks again. Helen. |

A couple of people have suggested that I explore "Jane" as an alternative name and I think I will try this next. Thanks. Helen |
