After recently posting a request for help for the marriage cert of Keith Edwards (which I've ordered and am awaiting delivery) the family is now trying to find which army batalion he was in. The reason for this info is that keith died last week and left no money for his funeral, the family can't afford to pay for it and are trying to get help from the army.
We can't find any info in his house but are definite he was in the army. He would've left approx 1959 to 1965 but that is just a guess. Is there any way anyone can find this info for us.
his dob 5.4.1936. Tadcaster N Yorks was where he married but he was born Swallownest, Nr Sheffield and died at Rotherham these last places are all South Yorks.
Please if anybody can help with this plea and just the little info I've given we'd be very thankful.
Thankyou all for reading this

Id have thought social services would be the place to look for help with funeral costs.

Have you tried your local British Legion Branch? His next of kin could send for his Army Record but this might take weeks to arrive.

Thankyou both for replying, without going into further details, Social Services are involved and British Legion won't help because he hasn't any dependants (ie his daughters are grown up and he has no wife).

In the meantime I've rang the army benevelant fund who've referred us to SAFFA. They're only open 10.30-12.30 Tues and Wed so my sister is going to ring them tomorrow to see what they say.
