Find Ancestors

Trying to find who was the father of Charles Roberts born 1864, he
had two sons and a daughter one called Charles my Grandfather born 1896
at Llanyblodwell Llynclys Nr Oswestry Shropshire.
There are several candidates but I'm not sure which one is correct.

Not sure which Charles he is as there are at least two others born the same year approx' and in the same area.

You presumably know the name of the mother of his children? Did he marry her?

He married a Elizabeth Tannatt yet on the 1901 Census he claimed to be a Widower yet according to my research and others who have helped, his wife was apparently still alive and ther's no record of a second marriage. I would really like to find out though who his father was,
might have been Edward, Evan or even Thomas, once again we're not sure.

These seem to be the only census that have a Charles Roberts b 8164, Oswestry so either his birth year or place of birth is different in earlier census.

Yes, that's what confused me. There doesn't appear to be anything on earlier Census's with 1864 birth, or even 1862 or 1865 that you can say is definitely him.

and there are a dozen cottages on the Hill.

No, not yet as there are a number of possibilities of which one he is one, Evan Roberts. Not certain which Evan.

Between 1901 and 1891 is when Charles may have taken over the house
and if it was his father who was living there it would be shown but I can't find anything.

Occupation of his father Evan.
Name and occupation of Charles's wife's father.
