Emma Taylor daughter of William

Having trouble with Emma! Can anyone help?

She is variously listed as Emma, Amy and Emy.

She married Richard Melling at Bolton le Moor, Lancashire Feb 1840.

Marriage certificate and censuses suggest DOB c.1820, place Manchester.

Father (on Marriage cert) is William Taylor, a mechanic.

I've found (IGI and Lancashire OPC) baptism 1817 Aimy? Taylor at Prestwich Lancs, daughter of William Taylor and Sarah Allen.

2 census records:

1841 Oldham
William Taylor age 45 mechanic born Lancashire
Margaret Taylor 40 born Lancashire
Squire Taylor 15 born Lancashire
Alice Taylor 14 born Lancashire

1851 Manchester
William Taylor age 51 mechanic born Edinburgh
Sarah Taylor age 53 schoolmistress, born Salford

So is Emma's dad a Lancashireman or a Scot?

Emma and her new husband Richard Melling don't appear on the 1841 census.

They possibly had a daughter Margaret who died as an infant about 1843-4 (named after Emma's mum?)

They definitely had a daughter Sarah born 1846 (named after Emma's mum?)

An intriguing coincidence is that Richard Melling's father, John, is listed on the marriage cert as a Schoolmaster. Were he and Sarah Taylor colleagues - all questions and no answers I'm afraid. He's another one of those "abducted by aliens" - John Melling only exists on his son's marriage cert, and baptism record, can't find anything else about him.

Any ideas gratefully received.

Cheers, Sue.

I would suggest that the 1841 & 1851 census you quote Sue are for 2 different Wliiam Taylors. In 1841 ages were rounded don so the 1st William would have been actually aged 45-49 and unlikely to have been 51 in 1851.
Also cannot find an Emma in the same baptism batch on the IGI though that does not actually prove anything
