Thanks Ginny.
Thats the last known address for my missing Tommy the Tailor Bell.
I will keep looking for him.
Richard Gustard was related via Marriage to Thomas Bells sister Mary , I think, who married Mathew Gustard,so they must have found work for him and he was living with them in 1861 .perhaps a nephew.?
Many thanks again.

Trevor Report 14 Oct 2009 22:51

Wow Ginny. You have been busy.!
It took me 6 months to find some of that.
Thomas Bell was my 3G Grandfather originally from Bothal and in 1841 was a Master Tailor living in Cowpen with wife Elizabeth and son Henry.
Later they became Gardeners in the 'Cowpen Hall'.
Henry married Isabella Scott and they had 2 sons Thomas the Tailor and John Robert Bell ( my great grandfather) and they all lived in the same cottage..Isabella died before 1871. Elizabeth died in 1877.
Thos lived on until 1881 aged 88 with son Henry now 45 and the 2 sons Thos the Tailor 22 and John Robert now 18.
I did not have the 1891 info on Thomas the Tailor and yes thats him.!!!
Age 30 boarding with Ann Boley? is there an address? I wonder where he went or did he have a family later on? Kind regards
Trevor

Many thanks. I was stuck and convinced John had died and never thought he may have lived on ,when his wife Eliza had remarried.
Next stop the death certs and 1911 census.
p.s Thomas Pringle Bell joined the Northumberland Fusiliers and died 12/4/1915 in Hull and buried in Hull War Cemetary.
Thomas Bell (Johns Brother) the Tailor in Cowpen is still a mystery born 5/11/1859., dont know if he had any family?
You have been a great help.
Good hunting and best regards
Trevor Bell. x x x.

Trevor

Pondering on that age difference on the 1901 census...John Bell was lodging at the house when the census was taken and I was thinking that the people he was lodging with would not have known his age so I'd say its a very good chance that it is your John.

Here are a couple of possible deaths for him. I think its a case of caughing up for more certificates at this point

Thank you.
Francis did die and Henry Tilmouth Manners married Eliza Bell (my Great Grandmother) Frances and Eliza were Pringle sisters.
Is it John Robert Bell at 4 Single Row (my Great grandfather)or did he die circa 1894/1895 prior to his 2nd son being born on 20/8/1895.
Its a mystery ? what happened to John Robert Bell and his brother Thomas Bell born 5/11/1859.
Best regards to all
Trevor Bell.

Gee

Gee Report 12 Oct 2009 21:56

Rule out..rule in. John Bell could be a mistranscription either of age or marriage.

Too much of a coincidence not to be him but you might be right..who knows

Thank you.
Thomas Pringle was Eliza Pringle's brother. They are all living in his house with his mam, including the 2 young Bell boys(my grandfather and his brother). Eliza Pringle is using her maiden name.?
If John Bell is still alive in 1901 and living next door that's brilliant news.
Thank you.
Eliza went on to marry Robert Manners ( former best man)so I still don't know what happened to John Robert Bell after 1901 or his brother Thomas Bell the Tailor .
Do you have an address I can look up? Many thanks Trevor. xxx

Ginny.
Does it say Eliza sister to head was a widow ?

Second child with no fathers surname is unusual. I have a birth cert where the father is named as husband of the mother and I know he had died 14 months before in WW1.

Both mother and baby died and mothers sister registered the death
