David Edward Jones, born Liverpool who lived in the Rosemount area of Montreal, Canada circa 1918. Parents Joseph and Sarah Jones emigrated 1907. He had siblings too, Lily, Mona, Sarah, and Maria that I know of. He was discharged from the army in 1919 (Ihave his discharge papers showing his intended place of residence as 567= 6th Avenue, Rosemount, P.Q) so if you can help, please contact me.

treacle, you'll find that the help that other (unrelated) members might be able to offer will come in this message thread, not by private contact.

If you want to name the siblings, and give any other info you know about DWJ (approx date of birth? place of birth? parents? spouse?), do add a post here -- click the purple REPLY button at the top of the thread and the invisible box for a new message will open.

I and a couple of others here are in Canada, but as you may know, public access to records here is very limited, so there may not be a lot to be found.

This is the DEJ you are asking about?

(copy and paste back together)

That is the image of his WWI attestation paper, found by searching for his name here:

http://www.collectionscanada.gc.ca/databases/cef/001042-100.01-e.php

He is the second of two DEJs in the results list.

Born Liverpool, 24 June 1896, father Joseph [?] Jones, Rosemont. Not married when enrolled in the CEF, in 1915.

(The birthdate doesn't agree with his age on 21 June 1915 -- 19 yrs 5 mos. January makes more sense, and there's a birth in W Derby 1st quarter 1896 that would match.)

1901 in West Derby:

Joseph H Jones 34 - born Liverpool
Sarah Jones 34 - born Liverpool
Lily Jones 7
David E Jones 5
Mona M Jones 3
Sarah E Jones 8 months
Maria Jones 77
Annie Thomas 32
Mary L Hellstern 13

Dear Janey,

Many thanks for your replies.
Yes, this is my David Edward Jones and I have copies of his service records but he is still unmarried when he left the army in 1919. His discharge address is given as
567 6th Avenue
Rosemount, P.Q.

You have found his siblings on 1901, but I have had no luck finding them on the 1911 Canadian census.

Thanks again
Anne

P.S. They emigrated in 1907 - I have the passenger entry.

Ah, date of immigration helps! I poked a bit at the 1911 census, but not knowing whether they were there, didn't want to spend much time.

... And after a bit more poking, still no luck, I'm afraid.

Ancestry shows a David Edward C Jones death in BC in 1948. I don't subscribe for Cdn records, so we'll use the dreaded BC site, which I hate.

http://search.bcarchives.gov.bc.ca/sn-545405D/gbsearch/Births,Marriages,Deaths

Nope. Three deaths:

1948 aged 48 - unless someone were guessing at his age
1978 aged 7
1987 aged 34

I think I found a Lily Jones working as a servant.
So long ago now I can't remember where or when!

Thanks for looking for me, much appreciated and I would so much love to find any of them.

When the 2nd World War broke out here, my Grandmother received a letter from the Canadian branch of the Jone's family offering to take me and my brothers over to Canada to safety. We never went but oh how I wish I had that letter now!

regards

Anne

I re-found Lily for you in the 1911.

Jones Lily Female Domestic Single Sep 1893 aged 17

Search for her at

http://www.automatedgenealogy.com/census11/Test4.jsp

She's in Montreal St Antoine, Quebec.

I'm not going to open the image (split view on the transcript page) because it has crashed my firefox in the past. But she seems to be in the household of Clarence and Belle DeSola and their children, Belle's mother, and a cook, nurse and another domestic.

But I don't see the others in the same ward.

Now, there is a Mrs Jones in that ward.

Jones Mrs. Female Employee Married Jan 1867 aged 44

You might want to consider her. She's an employee, on an entire page of employees, so you'd have to check the image.

Well, don't know how I missed them before.

Jackpot!

Their birth years seem to be missing.

To find them at the site, choose Quebec in the list on the 1911 page. Then search for Jones. Then filter by given name, using Mona as the unique one. Click on the page number link beside her name to see the list, then click on "split view" at the top to see the pdf of the original image.

You're welcome! I do wonder whether the stray Lily Jones and Mrs Jones might be the same people as the ones in the Jones household, who were at work overnight but got enumerated at home as well. Their ages are virtually identical.

What's the nudge for? ;)

It isn't too likely that someone who *knows* the family is going to happen along at the moment your post is on the front page!

Why not add all those name to your tree here at GR, so if someone does search for them, they'll find you?

JaneyCanuck Report 29 Sep 2010 20:46

I see you do have the names of the ones born in Liverpool, at least I see Mona Jones on a tree search. You're in touch with the other person who has her, for example?

To both of you, - Janey and mgnv
Wow, thanks for the burial of Joseph Henry, it shows that David Edward Jones was atill alive in 1929.
