Peter is still here in 1881 with his mother Emma. Her husband Peter is not listed after 1871 so maybe he went ahead earlier. By 1891 Peter junior is married with a child. and still in the same occupation. Doesn't look as though he went.

Hello Det- this is not my relative- thak for your help though much appreciated
Hello Ginny, this is not my relative- they were going to the US but thank you for your help.
Hello Astra- thank you for your info- I have the 1881 census but thank your for the emmigration details, very helpful. It does look as if Peter junior did not go as the UK info you have given to me confirms what I I have. that he remained here. The mystery is that Peter junior is reputed to have started the first English football team in the US, we have a photo dated 1884, of a team 'organised' in 1880 with Peter wright as the Captain, maybe it was his father. Research re the team has been less than conclusive. The mystery remains THak you very much for everyones help Patricia

Hello - thank you for your replies- I realise that I am new to this posting and probably not asking the right questions- bear with me please.
Det- this Peter Wright is not my relative but thank for your trouble., nor Ginny is your Peter but thank you also.
Astra, the info which you have supplied is my Peter (my husbands) so it does look as if he didn't go the the US which is what I have suspected for some time, hence the request for info.
This does leave me with a continuing dilemma as the story in the family is that a Peter, thought to be Peter junior, started the first 'English' Football team in the US, we have a photograph dated 1884 of the Paterson FC 'organised 'in 1880, Peter Wright is the Captain. If it was Peter senior, born 1831 he would have been abt 49- he looks very young in the photo. I have tried through various web sites to clarify the 'story' but not found a compelling answer to the mystery. Peter junior did play a very important part in football in Cheshire as did his son, my father-in-law so there a historical need to get answers.
This probaly isn't the forum to ask the questions but nothng ventured. Thank you for all the info which you have found which is super thanks. Further avenues to follow Regards Patricia
