Yes they will let me look at them but the book has to be 'tied' so I can't look at anybody else's records, because there could be records of people who are still alive. They say they will look up admittance records for him and the record of his death there and I have to make an appointment and give them three days' notice so they can prepare the records which I can then consult at the Record Office. I did make it clear that Thomas's wife and children have all passed away., but I would like to obtain his death certificate in case they ask for it, although they haven't asked me for it. I will actually go there if nobody has any other information, I have tried searches on this site, but with no luck. Just hoping that I could perhaps find another relative.

Thanks for suggestions

I doubt whether they'd let you search such "recent" hospital records anyway. They may be closed for 100 years and you might have to contact the Health Authority to be allowed permission to access them. I'd contact the Archives, giving them the relevant dates and see what the procedure is.

Thanks Liz,

Yes, they do have a look up service, just that its £12.50 per half hour, and I have no idea how long it would take them to do this. Budget at present doesn't really run to this. I will go there in due course, but I just wondered if anybody had anything on him before I go.

Regards
Sheila

Some records offices have a "look up service", but the charges vary.

A few more details. he died when he was 68 in 1959 in Pastures Hospital Derby, I can find an entry for Thomas H. Turner in 1959 but have no way of knowing if this is correct. I'm really at a loss. His father was Joseph, an Engineer, listed as living in Strensall, Yorks, on Thomas's marriage cert in 1922, New Mills. I have traced him to 1935 living in Edgeley Stockport, but nothing after that, when I presume he was committed to Derby Lunatic Asylum (which later became Pastures Hospital). Have been in touch with Derby Records and they have the records for Pastures, as I don't have transport and live quite a way from the records office, I was wondering if anybody has any connection here. He was my grandfather, I never met him.
