I would welcome help from anybody who can track marriages better than I have been able to. I know my great grandad - William Williams (father Walter) born in 1786, married Mary Davies born 1876 sometime between the 1901 census and the birth of first child Walter Glyn Born Pontypridd) in sep 1902. But BMD gives multiple options that I can't narrow down and so can't progress futher back?? Appreciate any advice. Bob |

I tried that, marriage between the two names with grooms father in pontypridd, but register office said no record. Can I order a certificate based on groom and bride and grooms fathers name and year then?? |

I have Waalter's birth certificate which clarifies names of parents and adress at birth (pontypridd) and I know father was living at pontypridd in c1901 census - but the marriage register fro pontypridd between william and mary davies in BMD the gov cert say is not the right one? |

If the Register office said no, then there is one of 2 things that could be wrong |

No middle names for either parents. I do know that William called himself 'Tudor' as a middle name to distinguish from all the other William Williams' around (hence the 1901 and 1911 census entry as William T). There was some family talk of Mary being called Mary jane but I can't verify that. There is no record in any of the census' of Mary having a middle name. |

Julie, thanks. I know the father definately was Walter due to family history and census checks. Pomntypridd wedding was logical as he lived there in 1901 census and was living there when child was born following year. However, Mary Davies was born in Abergele and I have no idea how they met - so could have returned to either 'home' communities to marry and then returned to pontypridd I suppose. |

Mary, I can't narrow her down in 1901 census - there are too many and although there are a couple in pontypridd at the time none of them have abergele stated as birth place. |

If you order the cert on line from the GRO (quoting the details from the index), you can give a name as a checking point (eg order the cert just in the groom's name and give bride's name as checking point). If it isn't correct they will not send the cert and will refund part of the charge. |

If the one I found is the one that was incorrect, have you tried the one that Starr1 found? |

I haven't gone for the one that Starr1 identifed as I have no indication that Ann is a middle name that has ever been identified? |
