im trying hard to research my family tree but have hit a brick wall,im looking for ancesters of my grandfathers father his name was charles henry wood born approx 1905 ,my grandfathers mothers name was edith palfreeman so far iv found out all grandads sisters had the palfreeman last name but grandad(leslie) had the wood last name,does this mean charles and edith were not married ? and if so how do i find more info on the wood side of the tree

can you give more info on dates of birth and places?

could be that Edit was married before?

Palfreeman is the mother's maiden name.

Can't see a Wood/Palfreeman marriage, but there is this just to keep at the back of your mind:

Marriages Mar 1920
Kirk Harry Palfreeman Stockton 10a 164
Palfreeman Edith Kirk Stockton 10a 164

I would be inclined to get the above birth cert found by Ozbird if you wish to research the name Wood as you really need the father's name.

When were the sisters born and where.

The Edith Palfreeman from Durham who married harry Kirk J/F/M 1920 had two girls Mabel J/A/S 1920 in durham and Joan O/N/D 1923 also in Durham.
Your Edith was from Durham also, born 1898/9 daughter of Walter 1860 and Margaret 1862 both born in Yorkshire.

Tamara - did you get Leslie's birth certificate? Was that the father's name on it and what was the father's occupation please?

i havn't yet got the birth cert but have asked other family members and we know that leslie Wood was born in halifax on5 sept 1925 to parents Charles Henry Wood and Edith Palfreeman not to sure how many brothers and sisters he had but we do know he had three sisters ,names vera, zena and ada,many of his sibling died in the early twentieth century dou to TB.i have some info on ediths parents but it's Charles side i can't find,i'd say he would have been from yorkshire though
