this is the only one that comes close on ancestry:

Name: J Wagstaff
Address: Boots, Shoes, 29
Exchange: Station rd
Directory title: Lincoln / Sheffield / York / Hull / Middlesbrough / Newcastle / Leeds / Bradford Aug
Publication Year: 1945
Directory County: Lincoln, York, Northumberland

For those phone books, you absolutely have to look at the images.

The 1948 listing for that one actually says:

Wagstaff J & B & Son, Boots, Shoes
29 Station rd
(telephone) Holmfirth 233

A trick for searching those phone books to find the right place.

Use &%$# for the surname.

Then put the street (station) and town (royston) names, and "all counties".

I got a list of names on Station Rd in Royston.

I picked a Nolan in 1962, and blundered my way through the pages of images to page 1275, where the Wagstaffs are (and Wagstaffes on the next page).

No Wagstaff on Station Rd in 1962.

But ... could

Wagstaff F, Frmr, Notton Grange, Royston

be them? The only Wagstaff listing in Royston in the list on that page.

But no F Wagstaff married in Barnsley district 1922-1962.

Google finds him, however.

Name : FRED WAGSTAFF & SONS LIMITED
Address : Notton Grange Farm / Notton
City : WAKEFIELD
Postalcode : WF4 2PB
Country : UNITED KINGDOM

Go to google maps and ask for Royston, Yorkshire, and then for "Notton Grange", Yorkshire.

The arrows are about two miles apart. Station Road leads out of Royston and becomes Bleakley Lane, which is the location of Notton Grange.

I think that is your household.

Google maps gives the address as:

Notton Grange
Chevet Ln, Notton, Wakefield, Yorkshire WF4 2PB, UK

(Since this is a commercial address I think it will be fine to post it here -- but I've found the personal listing at BT on line now and will send it by PM.)

Beverley, I see you have read the message I sent you with the contact info you were looking for.

I have not had a reply from you either privately or in this thread.

I find that rather odd.

... Delayed reaction. ;) Beverley has been back in touch, afraid not much more can be done at present ...
