I thought we were awaiting the certificates, but you have started a new thread:

http://www.genesreunited.co.uk/boards.asp?wci=thread&tk=1188106

Very unwise.

1911

SYNETT MAY AMELIA 1894 17 Mile End Old Town London

living with

SYNETT AMELIA 1854 57 Mile End Old Town London

There is no birth of a May SYNETT 1890-1895. So I suspect this is her. Whether mistranscribed, misspelled or whatever, I don't know.

Hannah Syrett has become Amelia??

Also in the 1911 household:

RAMSEY EMMA LOUISA 1864 47 Mile End Old Town London

JaneyCanuck

JaneyCanuck Report 5 Nov 2009 02:39

This death would match up with the location of the Mary Eliza Syrett death:

Deaths Sep 1918
Syrett Hannah 63 Hollingbourn 2a 920
= DOB c1855

Answer, Dunno !
I've been chewing away at this all day and am still of the opinion that only their marriage certs will do,
maybe Harry's birth cert might help ?

IF they told the truth !

It looks like Harry Syrett married Lily Pratt, who remarried a Woddward after he died ..poss, one daughter Marguerita Syrett, supposing I have the right war record?

SYRETT , HARRY Lance Corporal 9338 16/08/1917 Unknown Royal Berkshire Regiment United Kingdom Panel 105 to 106 and 162. TYNE COT MEMORIAL
Belgium
Locality: Zonnebeke, West-Vlaanderen

Pritchard ? Well that's a new twist, I can't get my head round that yet.!

JaneyCanuck

JaneyCanuck Report 5 Nov 2009 00:52

We do have a Sophia Pritchard born at just the right time in a possibly right place ...

Births Sep 1880
Pritchard Sophia Holborn 1b 744

with no death by 1881, and I can't spot her in 1881.

JaneyCanuck

JaneyCanuck Report 5 Nov 2009 00:44

Let's try the 1911 ... looks like Lindsey was on the mark with the WWI death:

MILITARY SYRETT HARRY 1890 21 Dover Kent

but no luck with the others.

Marriages Dec 1915
Bonfield George H Syrett Mile End 1c 1282
Syrett May A Bonfield Mile End 1c 1282

and unfortunately, if that was the right Mary's birth:

Deaths Jun 1907
SYRETT Mary Eliza 12 Hollingbourn 2a 495

... but, since the birth and death are both in Hollingbourn district, that may be the wrong person.

JaneyCanuck

JaneyCanuck Report 5 Nov 2009 00:35

Btw, there aren't really two Mary Syrett-s in 1901. They are May and Mary.

Births Sep 1893
Syrett May Amelia Stepney 1c 419

and probably

Births Sep 1894
Syrett Mary Eliza Hollingbourn 2a 741

1891 in St Peter's, Kent

Arthur R Pain 30
> Hannah H Pain 28
Amy L Pain 8
William R Pain 6
> Harry P Pain 4
Ellen E Pain 1

? ... Probably not ...

Marriages Jun 1882
Honour Hannah Harriet Thanet 2a 1408
PAIN Arthur Robert Thanet 2a 1408

Here -- Harry's birth certificate will state Hannah's birth surname:

Births Sep 1889
Syrett Harry Milton 2a 863

Marriages Sep 1901
COVAIONDON Hannah Pain W. Ashford 2a 1730
Syrett Henry W. Ashford 2a 1730

If Hannah married there under her first married surname, the certificate should still state her birth surname and that she was a widow.

I would certainly order the certificate under Henry Syrett's name only.

Christina, you did thank me! But I'll thump you if you keep sending me private messages instead of posting in the thread. ;) And space out your paragraphs ...

From Christina:

From Christina hi janey just to say thanks for all you hard work it really is appreciated.

i still cant find sophie anywhere except 1901 census, tried the various spellings as you did but to no avail.

i really want to know what her mothers maiden name was as some one in my family said it was pritchard but i cant find anything on that, maybe you can if you wouldnt mind.

havent been well yesterday terrible migraine, so went to bed early last night. sorry for not thanking you sooner

Lindsey???!

But Christina ... does this mean you already knew her mother was Hannah? That would have saved some searching tmie ... always give all the info you have.

Dutch - yes, that sounds about right. It put me in mind of a Canadian Olympic athlete whose first name I can't remember and last name I can't spell! It just always amuses me - we are holding the Olympics in Vancouver and his name sounds like Vancouverden.

Here we are. I tried that wrong spelling (nothing else had worked) in combination with Canadian Olympic athletes, and google asked did I mean "Van Coeverden". Adam Van Coeverden.

It's interesting that the "Pain" rather than "Van" appears on both marriage records.

Christina, when you get the certificate(s), do come back and tell us what they actually say!

Lindsey, a bucket full of kudos -- are you making fun of me for saying you started the "bowl" rolling? It was late ... ;)

Lindsey* Report 4 Nov 2009 12:43

A bucketful of Kudos wow ! Ta ever so !

I think you have to get that certificate just to see what a mess they made of it,
and hopefully her fathers name .{ probably Smith ha !}

it sounds as if it could be a dutch name in the beginning?

As for the 1911 , still not having much luck,I'll keep digging, hoping for divine inspiration !

this for Harry ?

You won't mind if I copy it here will you Christina?

Saves me having two separate conversations going on in two different places, and lets everybody know you're reading. ;) (We all do hate getting private messages about threads on the boards - just putting it all here is easier for everybody.)

From Christina
no i dont hate you i absolutely love you for finding out so much and it all makes sense as i had some details from family members but it was all bits and pieces. you must be exhausted being up so late hope you have a lie in now!
once again thankyou very much
christina

Phew. It was a bit tricky, so I figured maybe you could use a hand. Good luck going back from there, I have to say! And just shout if you're stuck!

Oh - I'm 5 hours behind you, so it was late-ish, but not that late. ;)

(Or is it 4 hours, or 6 hours? Canada went off daylight saving on Hallowe'en, not sure about you folks ...)

And before I forget again - kudos to Lindsey on the marriage find, which of course started the bowl rolling.
