Hi! Anyone out there who has any info on Thomas Hughes, born Rymney, Monmouthsire 1879 and his wife Jane (possibly nee Brice), born Pontlottyn 1881? in 1901 census they were living in Queen Street, Gelligaer, Pontlottyn, Glamorgan with their, as yet unnamed, daughter who was about a month old. Any info gratefully received. I do already know their marriage date, but it's anything after 1901 I need to know, although I believe Thomas died 1910. Cannot find Jane and child on 1911 census.

Thanks Viv, you could be right, but will have to contact my cousin to see if she knows of any other children Jane and Thomas had. I did another 1911 census search for Thomas, and found a different one, also married and boarding out but aged 32, more the age he should have been. Funny thing is, it's the selfsame address as the one you found!! I know Hughes is a common Welsh name, but that is weird! Also, with the one you found for Jane, her mother's sister was called Margaret, and the age would be right, too. Shall wait and see what said cousin says, and see if we can go any further. Thanks again, Jackie

Hi Jacqueline,
My name is Ray Hughes of Caerphilly, South Wales, and I have only just started to research my family tree. Thomas and Jane Hughes(Nee Brice) of Queen Street, Pontlottyn are my grandparents. Victor Hughes (deceased) was my father ,who was born on 14/02/1926 and he was one of eight children in the family. My Mother tells me their names are: Sarah, Benjamin, Henry, Wiliam, Albert, Stanley & 'Winnie'. Thomas and Mary together with Stanley are all buried under a large tree in Ystrad Mynach Church cemetry, to the left hand side of the bottom gate entrance. Victor and my mother Vera(nee Lucas) have had three boys and a girl. I have at this moment in time traced the Hughes side of the family back to the 1851 Census if there is any information we can share I would be grateful for your help
Look forward to your reply Cheers Ray

Hi, Ray, Unfortunately, having read your mail, I appear to have been researching the wrong Jane Hughes!! Mine was a widow by 1921, when she remarried. As soon as I read the date of your father's birth, I knew. I was really disappointed, as I got quite excited when I saw an answer as I hadn't heard anything at all for some time. I am actually doing this research for a newly found cousin in Canada, so I have also had to tell her I have made a monumental bog-up!!! Oh, well, such is life, or so they say. Back to the drawing board. Sorry I can't help you either Regards, and have a good New Year, and good luck with your future searches. Jackie
