Thank you so much, especially for the 1911 stuff, although Ellen Evans has completely thrown me, so I'll buy some credits and view the image. I was also going to try and track down this mary Ann and use that as a search term for 1891 so thank you for the tip that she actually lives next door Freewheel, saved me some time there.

Vicki

Just checked the 1911 image and Ellen Evans is actually a servant so no relation, just coincidence and there is also an Ellen Jones living with then as a nursemaid! Never knew my grandfathers family were so well off!!

No way of knowing whether this is 'your' Hywell

British Army WWI Medal Rolls Index Cards, 1914-1920
Name: Hywell Evans
Regiment or Corps: Royal Engineers
Regimental Number: 46497

If it is, he was awarded the DCM (Distinguished Conduct Medal) in addition to the Victory and British Medals.

'Mary Ann' in 1901 is living next door, surname JONES - the transcribers have got things wrong.

Thank you all, I wonder as Thomas and John are listed as Sailors and Thomas was a master mariner if the family are on board ship somewhere in 1891. Llewelyn also emigrated to the US at some point, a lady has PM'd me to say that's where he ended up and he was is Wisconsin by 1903, she also thinks John ended up in South Africa and Hywell in the US as well, so more for me to look into.

Thanks again
Vicki

The 1901 record lists Margaret as having an alternate name of Mary Ann.
It's possible that is what she is shown as in the 1891 census.
In 1901 they were living at 7 Bay View Terrace, Llanwnda.
Richard has Newspaper Reporter as his occupation
Also .. Thomas R. Evans, son, 36, master mason (may be mariner), b. Liverpool
Minnie Evans, d-i-l, 28, b. Shanghai, China

Many thanks freewheel, yeah another step in the right direction.

Like you say though they should be on the 1891 census especially as Hywell would only be 14, and wonder where the other sons ended up, cant find them either!

Thanks again
Vicki

Have you found them in 1901?

Victoria

Victoria Report 19 Nov 2009 22:26

Hi
I am trying to locate a family on the 1891 census and can not find them and feel like my head is going to explode, I cant understand why.
Richard Evans born c1831, Anglesey, Wales
Margaret Evans born 1839, Caernarfon, Wales
Thomas Rogers Evans born 1865, Liverpool, Lancashire - he was a sailor and became a master mariner in 1893, so possible he is away at sea.
John Arthur Evans born 1866, Holyhead, Wales- again might have married and left home
Llewelyn Evans born 1868, bangor, Caernarfon
Hywell Evans born 1877, Bangor, Caernarfon

I guess probably only Hywell was still living with his parents, and possibly his name is spelt wrong but I dont even seem to be able to find Richard and Margaret.

Very frustrated!
