Hello Everyone
I am trying to find a birth record and marriage record for my mothers Grandfather William Henry Taylor.
We have Census records, birth and marriage records for William and Elizabeths children etc however we do not know Elizabeths maiden name.
On the 1901 Census we have William and Elizabeth with two of their children Edith and Tom. Williams birth is estimated as c1876 born in Swinton, Pendlebury.
We have the 1891 Census showing that William is at home with his parents.
I have tried to check the marriages between 1891 and 1901 for a William Henry Taylor and an Elizabeth Unknown. Only one seems like it could be even anywhere near close: William Henry Taylor and Elizabeth Davenport AMJ quarter 1898 in Salford.
Is anyone able to check and see if they can come up with another possible marriage. Before I order this certificate.
I am also having trouble pinning down a birth for William Henry in 1876, I would like to order a certificate but need the details.
If anyone is able to locate them on the 1911 Census so I can confirm the rest of their children I would really appreciate it, I have done a free search and come up blank.
Household Members would be: William Henry, Elizabeth, Edith, Tom, Sarah Elizabeth, Ethel and James Taylor, we think they were living in Swinton at that time, but know that they moved to Bolton at some stage.

Hi Taylor. You say:
"We have Census records, birth and marriage records for William and Elizabeths children etc however we do not know Elizabeths maiden name."
I take that to mean you have found the births in the GRO but not obtained the certificates?
Why not do that first -- get a child's birth certificate, if you are certain you have found the right birth? It will give you the mother's name and save taking stabs in the dark at marriages. In any event, how would you know it was the correct marriage without a child's birth certificate to check the mother's name against?

It would be so useful to have the DOBs of the children who would be in the 1911 household and not have to go hunting them up from another census or something.
This Edith is "living with" the names William Elizabeth Sarah Ethel Taylor:
TAYLOR EDITH 1899 12 Barton upon Irwell Lancashire
Any match?
Ah, apparently.

Thanks Dea for the 1911 Census record, much appreciated.
Janey, Sorry when I say birth, marriage, records I mean we have found them on Ancestry and have the GRO Volume and Page numbers to be able to order the certificates.
Have only just started on my mums family over the last four days, I am waiting for contact from relatives in England to see who if anyone has copies of my Grandfathers marriage and birth certificates, just don't want to double up if we already have them.
I am eagerly awaiting communication from England, but must admit I am a little impatient and keep on trying to find out just in case no one has copies so that I can order them asap.

I understand the impatience, but.
You wonder whether anyone else can find a potential marriage you can't. We all have the same FreeBMD / Ancestry / whatever access to the GRO index! There might indeed be some mistranscription or other that is concealing a possible match from you, but that's not the sort of thing one can find -- because one doesn't know what one is looking for! How to know which William Henry Taylor's wife has been left off a list, or which William Henry Taylor has been added to the wrong list ... without tracking down every single William Henry Taylor and checking the accuracy of the transcriptions, one would not know.
There just isn't any way to get a child's mother's name / a husband's wife's name w/o the birth/marraige certificate, unless you are dealing in unusual names and details and can find the woman on a previous census by date and place of birth and given name, e.g.

Hi Janey
Sometimes it helps to have a second pair of eyes check information for you as you can tend to miss things when your going hard at it, or someone with more expertise to check out your info for you while your waiting.
I will see if I can come up with anything on the LDS, not very familiar with using it but will have a go. I am completely hopeless at the Lancashire on-line Parish Records, just don't seem to get it at all and have never found anything on it, although I am sure the info is there I just don't get how to find it.
Well I shall plod on and hopefully hear from the English Relo's shortly. Thanks for all your help.
