Starrtwigg, you're referring to the Marsh etc. "surname boards".
Virtually no one is reading the posts on those boards. Everyone who has seen and posted in them is reading the complete Trying to Find board where all posts appear, and doesn't even have a clue what "surname board" they were posted on. Posting on a "surname board" (just a subset of the entire board) automatically includes the thread in the complete board.
If someone happens to look at the Twigg "surname board" or wherever you did post this, they won't care what might be in your thread. ;)
These moronic "surname boards" that GR directs everyone to are the source of most of the problems here. People post on a "surname board" and then neglect to put the actual surname in their post itself, and no one reading has any idea what the surname is. And people post duplicate threads on two surname boards - one for husband, one for wife - and the end result is duplicated work by different people who see the two different posts on the complete board.
So in a nutshell: don't worry. ;) If you do think the Marsh clan that's connected with the Whalley clan could also be connected with John Johnson's adoptive mother, go to it!

Hi Janey, I was going to put that in about researching Elizabeth Marsh Wigley/Fanning possible link but didn't want to make it too confusing. Also not sure that this Marsh research should be under Johnson on this site!!!!

Any chance that Elizabeth Fanning (nee Marsh formerly married to Alfred Wrigley) is connected with the Marsh/Whalley bunch?

"George Whalleys mother was married twice to William Whalley (died 1874 just before George was born) and Margaret married again Benjamin Marsh from Sheffield, who continued to run the butchers shop in Granby street Liverpool."
Seems like a pretty tenuous theory. ;)

Sorry Janey, It is George Twigg & Mary Needham I only have the 1901 census info and cannot find any of them in 1911. ( although George might possibly be on a vessel then) My main research is Twigg and Whalley.George Twigg is my grandmother's brother.Only I was intrigued with the adopted son as formal adoption records don't appear till 1920s.
John Johnson does not have a middle initial on census. I have 2 birth certs which may be of interest to others as I am not sure if this is adopted John, as my research has failed to find deaths of parents.
1896 4 Jan John Johnson birth father is George Johnson a sheet iron worker journeyman of 11 Luke St Toxteth Park Liverpool. Mother is Annie ( Verner) they married at St Peters in 1882. Strange thing is there is no John with them in 1911 but there is a William I .Johnson a son 18 also sheet iron worker and Mary V or D Johnson 10 months living at 1 Carlton Hill, maybe John died or went to George Twiggs...who knows. Another cert is 1897 John Johnson born to Sarah Johnson domestic servant of Bootle No father 17th Aug at workhouse walton, informant Matron. Now I think I have traced Sarah she is servant to Matthew Fanning and wfe Elizabeth (nee Marsh formerly married to Alfred Wrigley) and their son Richard Wrigley stepson 29 in1901 at 167 Marsh Lane Bootle. Sarah Johnson is 19.
Apart from that the George Twigg's father William Twigg lived as a child in 1841 neighbours to a Johnson family in Gildart Gardens Liverpool but have not been able to link with this Johnson family descendants as most of these Johnson children remained unmarried. Thank you for your time in trying to help me. Pat

Can you clarify the names?
Subject line says George Twigg. Post says George & Mary Needham.
George Twigg and Mary Twigg formerly Needham?
Do you have the record of John Johnson's birth? What documentation do you have of the adoption (which would have been informal, presumably)?
In 1901 he was recorded as adopted son - but he could have been taken into the household at birth?
Name: John Johnson Age: 4 Estimated birth year: abt 1897 Relation: Adopted Son Where born: Liverpool, Lancashire, England Civil parish: Liverpool
George Twigg 30 Mary Twigg 22 John Johnson 4
Apparently born after their marriage:
Marriages Dec 1895 Needham Mary Liverpool 8b 41 Twigg George Liverpool 8b 41
Do you have his marriage record, and does it indicate a middle initial?
There seem to be two possibles, if you don't have his birth.
John Edward Johnson 1897 Apr-May-Jun John James Johnson 1897 Apr-May-Jun
There might be a clue in the parents' names.
