The Family Records Office in London is now closed and all BMD ledgers were transferred to Kew to be digitised.

She was 29 when she married - maybe the child was born before that?

Hi all,

Looking Like a deadend, anything death wise for her husband.

Cant see its a dead end .Her death cert will say if she wife or widow of . I dont think you will find anything more without buying at least that cert

Thanks Shirley,

I will contact the Certificate Office in Tunbridge Wells, with the details you have given should be relatively easy.

However, they seem to take a very long time to issue them, I am still waiting for my father's certificate, I ordered that 3 weeks ago.

Let you know what I find out.

Colin.

Colin
The details i gave is the GRO ref and wont be applicable to a local Record Office system.
You can order the cert from www.gro.gov.uk using the ref quoted Cert costs £7 and will certainly come sooner than 3 weeks.Payment is by debit or credit card and its a secure site PLUS you can ask for a checking point for her being the wife or widow of Arthur J Crouch. If this doesnt tie up then they will refund £4.

Shirley,

Thanks for the info, have applied for the certificate, will get back to you when I get it.

By the way, can you get any BMD certificates from that site? if you can what do you need ?

Regards

Colin.

Hi Colin.
Yes that site www.gro.gov.uk is the official site ,dont use any other sites that offer to get you the cert because they order it themselves from the GRO and then charge you a higher price to send it to you plus its takes longer because you are going through a 3rd party!!.
To order certs from the GRO you need their GRO ref and then ts costs £7 only.
for info the birth and marriage refs quoted at the beginning of the thread are GRO refs also from FreeBMD site
You can of course still apply to local records offices for certs .some will supply for family research altho lots of the london ones wont as they say they are too busy! The GRO refs then wont be any use because a local Office will have their own filing system
