David Baker b1811 who married Elizabeth Peregrine b1805 in Llandeilo in June 1835. Elizabeth was the daughter of Phillip Pergrine b 1771, he was a carpenter. David may not have been born in Llandeilo and may be associated with Birmingham, he had a brother Robert who married Gwenllian Anthony in 1827

My initial reaction was the Baker isn't a very Welshy name, especially at this time when Welsh was the main language for most general people - especially in this area.

Sylvia, a thousand apologies for not responding to your Dec 2009 information on my Baker heritage. It was remiss of me not to check the threads, I was under the impression that any reply would automatically show up in my In Box, not so.
In the meantime, I have , I believe, located the death of Gwenllian Baker nee Anthony, wife of Robert Baker in 1875, she died as a pauper in the upper Swansea Valley, I am still to actual find where she is buried. Continuing to trace the Anthony side pre Gwenllian and where the Baker boys came from.
Many thanks for your input, all the way from Canada with me just 40 miles away from Llandeilofawr.

Ann of Green Gables, you certainly live up to your name, many thanks for a vast amount of data on the Peregrine lineage. I had located quite a few Peregrines whilst at Carmarthen RO but none of them fitted with a birth/marriage link to the Philipp I found in the 1841 Census with David and Elizabeth nee Peregrine Baker. He was aged 70 setting his birth at c1771 and again, your listings do not detail such a birth event. I am desperate to trace the background of the BAKER connection as this leads to my grandmother, who married a JENKINS then my mother, who married a RANFORD and then me.
It may well be worth a visit to Aberystwyth to search older records but as I have no inkling as to where the BAKER name came from, it may be a long long shot.
