Albert Scott - WW1

Eaj123 Report 14 Dec 2009 11:24

Genes Reunited found Albert Scott was a casualty in WW1 but when I looked at the reference there was no way of finding which, if any, of the 40 names could have been my Albert's. Is there an easy way to find him, if he was one of the names?

His name was Albert Scott, born Chesham 1884, father Joseph and mother Kate.

He was married to Rose and had a daughter Violet in the 1911 census - living at that time in Fulham London.

Any ideas how to find him?

Thanks

Liz

Hi Elizabeth

Did Albert have a middle name? Or do you know the regiment he served with?

Hi Liz,

So we have no middle name to work with, looks like he married Rose Ing, looks like another child;

Surname First name(s) Mother District Vol Page
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Births Sep 1912 (>99%)
----------
Scott Leonard W Ing Fulham 1a 499

There is also a birth in 1920 with this surname combination.... in Hammersmith, his name is Stanley....... could this be related to them??

That's what I was thinking Freewheel.

Perhaps when she says 'casualty' she means he was injured - not killed?

We need some more info here please Liz.

If he had moved to London by 1911 it seems unlikely he would have returned to Chesham to enlist
My reading of the posting is that she has received one of these "Was your ancestor a WW1 casualty" which they send out even if only the name matches

Good point, Gillian - another reason for steering clear of using GR for anything other than the message boards.

But - without feedback from Elizabeth, we're just guessing.

As she is in Australia, we may have to wait until she wakes up!

Gillian,

Are GR REALLY sending out such 'silly' e-mails now?

It is worse than 'not matches (sorry - 'hot-matches' !)

I can't believe it !

P.S. - Elizabeth - if that is really how you came across the info - please ignore it, or at least treat it with EXTREME caution !

Yes indeed, Dea, Ihave had several like that including "Was your ancestor a WW1 hero?" and when you open the link it has absolutely Zilch to do with your family

Gee Report 14 Dec 2009 18:57

Yeah, I used to get loads of those 'Hot Matches' and 'War Hero' rubbish until I checked the box that stops them sending such tosh.

It's just a selling tool and a way of getting you back on the site

Hi Polly, Alice, Denise, Freewheel, Dee, Gillian and Ginny

Australia is awake and Liz is reeling over all the work that was done overnight on Albert!

It was one of the "Was your ancestor a WW1 casualty" emails GR sent that sent me looking. I was hoping that Albert wasn't a casualty as I wanted that family to have a happy ever after story - his mom had had a rough start.

I'll check the Bertie Scott WW1 casualty, Bertie being another name for Albert but hope the 1920 birth is the correct event.

Thank you all so much for all the work you did on him while I was sleeping - I really do appreciate it.

Many many thanks

Liz
