I am trying to find my cousins David Mitchell and his sister Dorothy. Born in Oxford, probably the Cowley area, father William and mother Dorothy Violet Pearl (nee Simms). Also my aunt Dorothy if she is still alive. My father was her half-brother Vincent William

Did you mistype David's sister's name, Ellen? There are Two births in Oxford, mother Simms in one case and Sims in the other, but the other name isn't Dorothy.

Mother Dorothy was born in 1927 and there is no matching death record to 2005.

There is a possible match for a marriage of David's sister; I will PM info.

Hi Ellen - got your PM in reply to the info I sent, saying your cousins are David and Linda.

Sorry, but the birth I sent you, for a name that isn't Linda, is the only other possible one I see.

And sorry but the info doesn't ring any bells -- I'm not even in England. ;) If you read around the threads here you'll see there are lots of us other members who have access to databases and help out with others' searches, but aren't related and don't know the people at all. I think that's the best I can do with your cousins. Unfortunately their names are just so common that it would be very hard to identify them getting married, or on the electoral roll or in the telephone directory. Even William Mitchell doesn't have a middle initial in the marriage record, so looking for him there, or for a death, would also be a next to impossible task.

... Oh Ellen. You know what this site is best used for? Searching other people's trees to see whether another member has your family in theirs.

Click on the "Search Trees" button up above. Search for David Mitchell born 1949 Oxford and you will see that you have him, and someone else - the name I gave you - also has him in her tree.

Click on the "Find Out More " button beside her name to send her a message. Hopefully she will still have the same email address and will get a notice that there is a message waiting for her here.
