I'm trying to find my father...his name is Ian William Harrison..

I have little information due to a family break up..

I know he was born in1956 in to Matilda and William in the lincolnshire area. I believe my grandparents have now passed away, possibly within the last 10 years.

He was in the navy when i was born in 83 and possibly dismissed...he was married to my mother Elizabeth Stewart - but i do not know what year this would have been.

I would appreciate any help.

Kind Regards,
Rebecca

Hi Rebecca. They were married in 1964 in Carlisle.

I've found his birth, which gives us his mother's surname. I'll look for siblings and send you any info found privately.

Thank you for the information on My dads siblings, i kind of knew one first name, but was a little stuck...ive updated my tree with the new info, thank you.

Is there anyone else that can assist with anymore info that would help?

I would extremely appreciate any help...

What more info would you be thinking of, Rebecca?

You said you were trying to find him. Are you looking in the telephone directory and at 192.com for his family members (siblings and their children) as I suggested? As I said, what I had in mind wasn't adding leaves to the tree, but then actively *searching* for those people!

Gee Report 18 Jan 2010 21:51

This is a wild guess and it's very likely wrong but there is an Ian Harrison on GR who has been searching his family

Have a look and see what you think. He's not been on for some time...well a long time actually but you could send him a message by clicking his name, you've nothing to lose really

Ive looked on 192 - believe there is possibly one match 2004-2007 but as harrison is so common - i can never be certain...

Ive even called a few possible matches, possibly scared the living daylights out of the poor men - to no avail.

Ive looked on the thread as you suggested and mailed someone... and messaged a few people with links to my fathers siblings partner (confusion).

I'm not sure who would have got married in 1964 as my father was born in 56 and my mother born 60??

Thanks Ginny,

Its quite strange that i live in the area((London) now that he refers to, but names and locations of origin do not match (Lincolnshire) so doubt there will be a match,,,

Thanks for trying

Regards
Rebecca

Minnie - Rebecca had said she didn't know when her parents were married.

I believe you were gently pointing out that someone born in 1956 did not marry in 1964! And you're right. So they may not have married, or possibly Rebecca's mum had been married before ...

It all kind of doesn't make sense because there's no Rebecca Harrison, or Stewart, birth in 1983 with mother Stewart ... -- not to pry, Rebecca, but when there are things that don't add up, it can mean that red herrings get chased.

Hi,

Right it looks like the marriage is wrong, he was born in 1956 he coluld not have married in 1964 , also the middle initial is wrong for this marriage, if your Father was in the foces maybe they married abroad,

I have managed to find your Grandparents marriage and also a poss sibling for your Father, will pm you the infor.

I was born in scotland - i tried to find my birth and my siblings births in scotland - to no avail!

My partner was laughing that i "wasnt born" today when i couldnt find myself!

My birth certificate shows i was registered in Alexandria, Scotland.

It is a possibility that my mother and father married abroad due to him being in the forces "navy". We lived in Helensburgh - the naval base is there and possibly lived/stayed in Gibralter when i was v young but that is a faint memory.

Ive only registered on here today, so please excuse me if im being dumb..will scotlands records not show on here?

Will send a possible marriage for a possible sister of your father which will give you her married name.

I hope you didn't pay to subscribe for records at this site, Rebecca. Waste of money.

For Scottish records the place is

www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk - free to register and search, small fee to view records.

Knowing that Scotland was involved, from the very beginning, was kind of essential information.

There is a GR member "Tombul" who is an expert on Scottish records and has privileged access, who may be able to help you with specific questions.

Blast, I didn't bookmark his thread, but you can find him in this one and send him a message:

Kathleen -- 1957 birth?

As I said in my first post -- I did that search, and I sent the birth and marriage. I also sent a 1960 male birth.

KathleenBell Report 18 Jan 2010 22:41

Sorry Janey

Your first post mentioned a marriage in Carlisle in 1964 so didn't quite make sense to me and I didn't realise you had already found siblings marriage.

I'm sure Rebecca didn't mind getting the information twice. Hope not anyway.

Thank you everyone for your help, it is more than appreciated....

i have PM'd the guy - expert in scotland searches -
also looked on the scotlandspeople - searched but not viewed as its 6.00 for 30 credits - there is only one match for myself, brother and sister in the searches, so we exist at least!

I wondered if anyone knows anyone who can search the current electorol roll? i searched 192 - but only found a match for ian w harrison that was valid 2004 - 2007, i also couldnt view it..

Why are these phone book places so much money to view.. surely you choose to be on it or not...
