1901 Census lists his family but not him.
93 High St Gloucester
Annie Williams 31 Head Married
May 7
Kathleen 3
John 5
Michel 2
I can find no sign of him in 1901 or his family in 1911
From the births of the children I think they came from Ireland about 1895
I think he was a soldier then an iron foundry worker
He is quoted as an Iron Driller on my Grans Birth Cert in Apr 1897
Did he die before 1901?
Annie his wife died in 1951 in Bristol
How can I search for clues about my Greatgrandfather further
Help needed please

Soldier in 1901, could be he was fighting in the Boer War, or was in India.

What is noted on your Gran's marriage cert. Is he noted there as deceased?

I have only a handwritten copy of my Gran Catherine's Marriage Cert by the Priest, it does not give Fathers Profession.
I cannot find record of Annie Kearney / William Williams Marriage either.
Thanks Ian

Thank you Catherine
Looking again carefully through my Gran's things I have just realised I have one more clue.
A letter possibly c1914 -c 1915 gives Annie Williams address as
3 Bull Terrace
Ditherington
Shrewsbury
So they may have stayed in the Hereford area.

Sorry, Ian!
Your can rule out the 1911 census, not the correct family, here they are in 1901:-

Kate Williams abt 1865 Co Wexford, Ireland Wife Holmer, Herefordshire
George H Williams abt 1869 Cirencester, Gloucestershire, England Head Holmer, Herefordshire
Kathleen A Williams abt 1894 Dublin, Ireland Daughter Holmer, Herefordshire
John J Williams abt 1896 Dublin, Ireland Son Holmer, Herefordshire
Fredk G Williams abt 1898 Dublin, Ireland Son Holmer, Herefordshire
Mary J Williams abt 1900 Holmes, Herefordshire, England Daughter Holmer, Herefordshire

I was thinking though that, if her husband was in the army, then maybe she took the children back to Ireland for a while, or maybe they were just away visiting family when the 1911 census was taken.

Thank you all for your interest.
Most of this has been a family mystery until papers turned up after Da's death.
Susan has come up with something as this birth date is near an alternate age we have from Annie's death cert of 1951 saying age is 93. (1858)
I am still hoping to eventually track them down in Ireland.
Thanks again Ian
