I'm looking for Pamela Edna Harrison who gave birth to a baby girl in London in 1941, and had her adopted. Adoptive mother was Violet Ann Beckett, AKA Violet Bourchier, Kyrle Bellew, Kyrle Bourchier. Can anyone help please?

Apologies everyone, I'm new to this and floundering a bit! We have absolutely no information about Pamela apart from her name and a handwritten message to the adoptive mother. We know the baby was born in St Mary's Hospital Paddington, but they won't give out any of Pamela's details. So, no DOB, nothing. Many adoption records were lost during the war.

Many adoption recoreds were said to be lost in the war...and you'd be surprised that many are also supposed to have been lost in fires, floods and other disasters. Funny thing is, no one remembers them happening

To an extent, it does depend on who is asking the Q's, nd who they are asking them of.

Local social services dept usually manage to extract the files but only for the adoptee themselves.

is it the adoptee themselves that is asking the questions?

I'm doing the research from Australia, my sister is working in UK - it's for a friend of mine who is the adoptee.
She visited a social worker over here who helped her get her court records for the adoption, and she has approached the hospital for records etc. herself - the rest is up to us. And it's proving very difficult!!

Might be a good idea to delete the other thread on Surname board especially as it has no replies

We've just discovered this lady changed her name by deed poll, so now we can get her birth certificate. Still looking for a Harrison marriage though, possibly after the name change took place in 1950.
