The marriage cert. will not only give his fathers name and occupation, that you can check with the above, but will also give his age at the time of the marriage so you can work out his date of birth.
It will also give the names of witnesses which may be family members.
If you know nothing about him you really should start by buying the cert. to find out the above info.

Thanks for your interest. The problem here is that I don't know anything about HJD other than that he married MKT as per my post.

I've tried searching the 1891 and 1901 Census returns but there are so many HJDs born in about 1890! I guessed at his birth year by taking 3 years of MKT's birth year.

If his father is also Herbert then the marriage cert may not help a lot but I will order it anyway unless you can help.

My ancestor Mabel Katharine Tutton (born 1893 in Shrewsbury, Shropshire – daughter of Edward Richardson Tutton and Sarah Maria Jones)) married Herbert J Davies in Ellesmere, Shropshire in 1919. They appear to have had 2 children: Phyllis born in 1920 and Edward J in 1924.

I am in the process of updating an old family and would like contact from family members.
