Anne Report 5 Mar 2010 17:08

Hello, I am trying to find the death and birth of my Gt Grandfather George Anderson b 1849 England.
George is a Seaman [Merchant Navy] on his marriage to Anne Dally, 4 Jan 1875 Anderston, Glasgow, his parents are George Anderson, Ship Carpenter and Mary Ann Nelson? both decd.
1881 census living at 80 Eaglesham St, Govan. Glasgow, Annie,[my grandmother] aged 7, brother Gerrie ,1 and parents George 32 , Seaman, born England, Annie 30 born Wigtown, Stranraer,
3 Dec 2006 A search on Scotland's People had an entry for a Marine death of George Anderson 1892, I have sent for the death cert. to verify/discount it..
13 Dec. 2006. Received death cert. and checked census for 1891 at Cellardyke, Fife., but it was not my George., as this George was with his own family.
1891 127 Blackburn St, Plantation, Glasgow. Annie wife, 48 b. Stranraer. Wigtonshire. George son 11. B Glasgow. [No mention of husband George, I wondered if he was at sea.]
Apr 2007. Went to Dunoon to research the Anderson side of the family. The B D M office made a search of their records with the info I gave them.
Annie Anderson [nee Dally ]had erected a headstone in memory of her son George.
George b 1849c is noted on the inscription, in Dunoon Cemetery, although there is no record of him being interred in this grave, at the Cems/Crems in Dunoon.
He had drowned. He was a seaman/Merchant Navy so I presume his body was never recovered. Have not found out where he died yet.
His son George is interred, he drowned in the Holy Loch, Dunoon, result of an accident, he was 25.
The Headstone Inscription reads: Erected by his mother in Loving Memory of George Anderson who was drowned in the Holy Loch. 9 July 1906. Also his mother Annie Dally Anderson, died 6 Nov 1914 age 58. Also his father George Anderson, Drowned 22 Dec 1894 age 42.
Would anyone know where I could find his death recorded. I thought if I got this it would lead me to his birth place.
Having difficulty tracing his birth as I do not know where he came from
Thank you, Anne.

Just a thoughr.Could there be a newspaper report at the time of son's drowning-given the coincidence of his father drowning 12 years before?

She had remarried to a Daniel McGrath according to her death cert in 1914.

Her father is stated as George Dally, Blacksmith; mother is unknown Dally, MS unknown.

The National Archives might be your only chance for his death, but I can't see anything jumping out at me.

I remember reading somewhere about some records were not kept fot the dates I was searching at the National Archives, maybe read it wrong..
The George Anderson age 21 would be too young , considering the death age on the memorial

Anne

George and Annie were married 4 Jan 1875, so the 1881 was the only one I found with all of them .The 1891, it has Annie, wife and wee George as his sister was now married.
I don't have George before that . I have tried to find marriages of George Anderson and Mary Ann Nelson , his parents, but it can be quite costly .
The name Dally can be spelt different ways. I found in 1851 census a George Dally 28 born Stranrear, wife Mary 30, Kirkmichael, Mary 11, Kirkmichael, Ann 6, b Kirkmichael, Ayrshire.Jannet 3, Stranrear.
But not sure about it.
With no more info I could not find them
