Hi Karen, David actually died on May 31, 1839 and was married on July 17, 1823. Hopefully that helps us find someone who might know more. Specifically a birth date and the names of his parents would be fantastic!

Nothing at ScotlandsPeople? Scottish marriage records and death records would ordinarily name parents (if known, of course).

Ben, since Karen's post is several months old, she may not be looking for replies. If you click on her name you can send her a private message. She will get a notification of that if her email address in the system here is current.

How the marriage is shown at

http://pilot.familysearch.org/recordsearch/start.html

Groom's Name: David Walker
Bride's Name: Jean Thomson
Marriage Date: 17 Jul 1823
Marriage Place: Cumbernauld,Dunbarton,Scotland
Collection: Scotland Marriages, 1561-1910

No ages, parents, etc.

The marriage does appear to be at SP

http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk

But I'm not buying credits to look. ;)

Thanks for your help JaneyCanuck. Karen and I are actually in touch on occassion via e-mail and have exchanged quite a bit of Walker information already (her husband and I are both descended from David Walker). Unfortunately we're both stuck trying to find David Walker's parents. I've searched SP extensively. I have many other documents about him and his children, grandchildren, etc., but none list his parents. I actually have the original marriage bann/certificate (it's been handed down five generations now) from his wedding to Jane Thomson in 1823 but there's no mention of parents on it. Because there were many David Walkers born in Scotland during the likely timeframe in which he was born, it's a bit of a needle in a haystack.

Hi Karen & Ben,
Going by the children of David Walker & Jane Thomson & using the scottish naming pattern.

Their 1st son was WILLIAM b. 1824, so it is highly likely that David's father will be WILLIAM.

Their 2nd son was JAMES b. 1830 (likely names after Jane's father)
Their 1st daughter was JANET WADDELL WALKER (Named after Jane's mother.)
Their 2nd daughter was ELIZABETH ( likely to be named after David's mother)

I would suggest you try to look for a David Walker with parent's as William & Elizabeth & see if that brings anything to light.
Of course not everyone used the naming pattern but most did.
Worth a try anyway in my opinion.

Regards
Kath
