I can't see Matilda Humpreys or Humphries in 1871 living on a farm, and not with a grandson.

On the 1901 cencus it states that his father was born in Bethnal Green his mother in Oxford street, London, William snr was a apprentice blacksmith, living with his Grandparents James and Matilda Humphries.
