I am renewing my appeal to find the whereabouts of Esther & Edward Kemp after the 1871 census.I have tried for months to find them but had no luck at all.I would really appreciate any further leads(first appeal August 2009).Yours gratefully

1871 wrong Esther looks to be 28=1843 as Walter is her son age 10 and they have Esther 21.
She was born 1840.She is unmarried.

Walter is actually Horace Walter,he married Ada Spicer in 1887.

I wonder about this one
In1891 there is an Esther Coomber 50 wid Laundress b Croydon, living at 1 Grove Villas Handcroft Road Croydon (same road as George above is living in 1881)
Same occupation as 1871
Could it be either misheard by the enumerator or Esther has married and been widowed (tho I cant find the latter)

Sorry for delay in replying.I looked at Edward living with his uncle but it's not him.He's on a previous census with his parents.
As regards to Esther Coomber.I did look at that one a while ago but discovered the husband on a previous census while Esther was still Kemp.I'm waiting for a birth certificate now with Edward under a different name.I'm keeping everything crossed that its him.If it is he was in the Anerley school so i reckon Esther was in the Croydon workhouse.The only way forward for me now is to visit Croydon History centre.Thank you so much for taking the trouble to answer my query

Hi everyone
I have found Edward.I received his birth certificate on Saturday.He was in fact Frederick George Kemp born in Croydon in 1865.I hope this will now lead me to what became of Esther.Thanks everyone for all your help

OK I have seen it on Ancestry tree,it only has mums name on it Esther Kemp.
Strange he should be Edward in 1871,no wonder you couldn't find him.

Sorry for delay in replying.I only found Frederick George by looking up all the Kemp Births in Croydon for the year i thought he was born.I then realised that a Frederick George Kemp witnessed Horace(his brother) & Ada's wedding in 1887.
I'm still no further afield finding what became of Esther although an Esther Sharp died in Croydon in 1874.William Sharp appeared on the 1871 census with Esther & her sons.As you know the handwriting on this census was awful.I'm looking further before sending for the death certificate as we can no longer cross reference them.Thanks again for all your help.
