hi,

i'm looking for info on the family of a jarvis wood(also spelt jervis, jessie and gervase)

he was born in uttoxetter about 1820(maybe 1818)

in 1841 he was living in the dilhorne/caverswall/foresbrook area and working as a shoemaker.

he married hannah sherratt and his father is listed on the marrage certificate as william wood (a gardener).

i've got quite a bit of info on him from 1837 onwards, but was wondering if anyone else has him in their tree and had looked back pre 1837 on him and in particular his parents?

thanks

Simon

i had actually,

indeed, i'd found that exact record(hence the 1818 ok, i should have mentioned it)

i found looking for siblings on site to a bit tricky as there are christenings with parents of williams' and hannahs' wood or williams' and anns' wood in the Staffordshire area,

but nothing to link them to this one as i've no other immediate family to go on.

he doesnt appear in any GR trees, which is possibly just due to him spelling his name about 100 different ways, i've even seen it written as jessie. (given that he never seemed to sign anything i'm starting to think that he couldn't write which probably explains it)

so before i make the trip to Staffordshire records office as its quite a trek for me. i was just wondering if anyone else had got any further?

i'm guessing if he was a shoemaker, then there may be details of his apprenticeship in the parish records
