Find Ancestors

Please can somebody help me? I am trying to find information about Annie Davies. I found a scrap of paper in my late mother’s papers showing a Mrs W G Davies living in Finchley (my mother had scribbled against her name the word “cousin”. I believe her maiden name was Robinson.

From the electoral registers for this area dated 1939 I discovered her name was Annie. Annie Davies & William George Davies lived at the same address in Finchley from 1939-1978. I have searched the BMD for her without success. There was a Donald G Davies living at their address in 1970 and a Lesley Hill lived there in 1976 and 1977. I have tried searching on these names as children of Annie & William but again without success.

I have spent several months on this and my head is reeling with trying to find different approaches to this. Maybe I am missing something obvious and a fresh pair of eyes would spot this.

I look forward to suggestions as to what I should try next.

Are you 100% sure that her maiden name was Robinson?

There is a Donald G Davies born in 1947 Hampstead with mother's maiden name Patter which maybe a mistranscription of Potter. There is a marriage of William G Davies to Annie Potter in 1937 St. Albans.

Hi Astra - Many thanks for your reply. I am 99.99% certain as I have covered the bases on the other branches in the family. There is of course the possibility that she did not marry and just took his name (which is not very helpful of her!) or her parents were not married. If only she had married someone with an unusual surname!
