It looks as though Arthur 1882/3 belongs to Edwin Edwards 1859 and Hannah 1863 according to the census records,i can't find a death for Arthur 1882/3.

Yes, they could be.

But bear in mind with a common-ish name that they could equally be cousins, or just a coincidence.

They usually put the time of birth on the birth certs of twins but some of the earlier registrations give a time of birth anyway and I expect some twin births don't give a time of birth, but the majority of twins will show a time of birth. So if you were to send off for the one you are sure about and it does show a time then the other one is likely to be the twin.

1911 the two missing off were Oliver James he was with aunt and uncle William A Woodcock born 1855 in hull Shipping Clerk and wife Emily married 30 years
173,Newland Avenue.

Agnes Mary married Thomas James Johnson born 1887 Hull.married for 2 years.
Also on census were Frances Wilson Edwards Johnson daughter born 1909
Florance Catherine Johnson 1910
10,Cliff Terrace Grange Street Hull.

I checked out 1911 for Alfred and Mary and they seem a bit unsure about the children born alive and the ones who died.
They originally put 13 born 3 died, but they were sure that 10 were still alive, which of course they were.

I can't find record for birth frances wilson Edwards Johnson, only this one frances edwards J/A/S 1908 Sculcoates 9d 248 I think this is correct as Florences Catherine Johnson born Sculcoates O.N/D 1909 9d 219.

Agnes Mary married A/M/J 1909 9d 358

Births Jun 1882 (>99%)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Edwards Agnes Mary Sculcoates 9d 196
Edwards Arthur Sculcoates 9d 197
Edwards Rose Sculcoates 9d 142a

So Arthur and and Agnes could be twins if I read it right

The trouble is that Ewards is a fairly common name:-

Births Dec 1886 (>99%)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Edwards Florence Edith Sculcoates 9d 182
Edwards Frederick Sculcoates 9d 173
Edwards Oliver Joseph Sculcoates 9d 197
Edwards Tom Sculcoates 9d 201

None of these will be twins. If Oliver had been 9d 181 or 9d 183 then he may have been a twin with Florence.

It could be a bit of a haul ... good luck with it!

Hi I am doing that now

I have found A Florence Edith born Dec 1886 Sculcoates same as Oliver J however with a different ref.

Could these be twins

You need to look from the date of the marriage (possibly a year or two before) up to the 1911 census - plot the known children on a timeline and see if you can spot any obvious gaps - then hunt for Edwards in the gaps.

Also, try and find the birth refs of all the known children - then check for other Edwards births in the same quarter and district to see if any of them were twins.

Also, were either Alfred or Mary married before? I know the question on the 1911 form is supposed to be specific to that particular marriage but I've noticed a few who were confused and put down ALL of their children - from previous marriages as well ...

There are 8 on the 1911 so they are living.

Checked the other two Agnes and Oliver can find no death.

Alfred Bryne and William S died after 1911

Julie Report 7 May 2010 12:46

Are the 10 you have here the ones that were living , if yes
Then it looks like you need to cross ref the births with the deaths to try & find the missing 2

Candidiasia Report 7 May 2010 12:42

On the 1911 census for Alfred Edwards and Mary Bryne it states total children born alive 1, children still living 10, children who have died 2.

I have the following children

Agnes M Edwards
Oliver J Edwards
Sarah Ann Edwards
Thomas Edwards
Alfred Bryne edwards
Mark Edwards
Charles Benjamin Edwards
William Stainsluas Edwars - my Great Grandfather
Joseph Edwards
Lucy Edwards

That makes ten soo who were the other 2.

Can anyone help.

Thanx
