hi i'm trying to trace details about my grandmother's family. she was born elizabeth ellen morris in lanchester durham april 1908, she was adopted and renamed cathy regan and married my grandad arthur gooch, they lived in sunderland, tyne and wear and had 3 children there before retiring to new zealand, where they both passed away.
because of the adoption and name change i'm finding it hard to trace her

Have you got her adopted fathers name from her marriage cert?

Have you found her on the 1911 census?
Official adoption wasnt till 1927. Was she adopted as a baby?

Where exactly in Lanchester district was she born?

There are these two girls on the 1911 census, either of whom could be a good possibility for the mother:-

Are you sure they only had three children? There are 4 Gooch/Morris births in Sunderland between 1937 and 1945. 3 boys and a girl.
