hi The 1881 census when looked closely at does say John Emanuel King . Catherine Johnson born 1822 is his mother in law

there is a John Emanuel King born 1850 district Stockton Durham yorkshire north riding

when looking at the census I found

Mary A King on her own on 1861 census but john was a mariner so most probably away she was born 1817 stockton middlesborough

John and the second itinial changes from a S to J but could easily be a funny e when looking at the census born 1850 middlesborough

This is the only John Emanuel I could find in Middlesborough

hope it helps found John and mary c living with grandmother 1861 but back again with parents 1871
