I am trying to find out about my grandpa's family who were from Liverpool. My grandpa was John Leslie Lee, born Nov 1920 (birth registered Jan '21 we believe). He married my gran during the war and moved to S.Wales.
Am trying to get any information on his family as we know next to nothing. His parents were John William Lee and Elizabeth (unsure of maiden name). John W Lee's profession is listed as master builder on my grandparents' marriage certificate.
My grandpa was the oldest child of John and Elizabeth and they had 3 more sons - Bernard, Thomas & Michael - and two daughters - Veronica and Kathleen/Katherine (known as Kitty).
If anybody could help with any information then it would be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks
Beth

I have looked, but as I'm not sure of the dates I can't be specific when looking for matches in other people's trees. I've just been looking at tree matches from my tree. Is there a different way of searching? I am still quite new to this!

Hi Bethan

This looks a possible for his birth -

Births Mar 1921
Lee John L (Mothers maiden name Williams) W.Derby 8b 1004

and a possible marriage for his parents -

Marriages Jun 1920

Lee John W Williams W.Derby 8b 693
This came up when I asked for a marriage to Elizabeth Williams but the site is playing up and it wouldn't show me her name

Thanks Christine! This is the record I found for my grandpa. We haven't got his original birth certificate but have a document that states he was born in West Derby, so we are fairly certain this is him. Although he was definitely born in November 1920, maybe they were late registering it?

I didn't find anything for a marriage between John W and Elizabeth Williams - don't think I looked as late as 1920. Obviously she was in the 'family way' before the wedding!!

I've also found a possible match for his brother Bernard - born August 1924, mother's maiden name Williams - but that's about as far as I have got!

Thanks to everyone who has replied so far - really didn't expect this much response so soon.
Just a bit of extra info -
Bernard and Thomas have passed away, almost certain Michael has to.
Kitty became Kitty Stanton after she married Don Stanton.
Veronica became Veronica Sherry - married Charles Sherry.
Not sure if Veronica and Kitty are still alive. Last we heard Kitty and Don had moved to Scotland.

I think she was the youngest of the children, so it is possible that this is her. I'll have to check with my mum to see if she has any idea of the age gap between the children.
Thanks Christine.

With the help of Tania, I've now found another Veronica Lee - born Jul Aug Sept 1940 in Liverpool S, mother's maiden name Williams.
I've had a quick look, but can't find a marriage between her and Charles Sherry - yet. I will keep looking and see if I come up with anything.
I've asked my mum if she knows anything else about that side of the family, but she can't think of anything other than when she went to visit her grandparents when she was a little girl (late '50s/early '60s), they lived in Ratcliffe Street, Liverpool. Don't know if that's of any use though.
Thanks again for all your help so far!

Hi Bethan - There is no marriage showing for a Veronica Lee to a Sherry and there is no birth showing in 1940 for the Evelyn Veronica Lee who married Charles Sherry in 1964 in Liverpool. So unless this Evelyn Veronica was married before to a Lee I think it's a safe bet to think that it is the same Veronica Lee birth that you found. Don't worry about the birth being registered in the July-Sept quarter of 1940 as anyone born 29th May is likely not to have been registered until July. They had 6 weeks to register a birth. If your relative Veronica did marry a Charles Sherry then I think it's likely to be the marriage I posted and for some reason she decided to start calling herself Evelyn Veronica. The marriage certificate would give you her fathers name and occupation to confirm this.

How would I go about obtaining their marriage certificate? The answer's probably really obvious, but as I said, still new to all of this!
Thanks

I would only order the certificate if you are sure that your Veronica married Charles Sherry Bethan. If you do want to order it though you can do it on line here -

I'll have a think about it. I do know that my Grandpa's sister married a Charles Sherry, and it seems very likely that this is them - but maybe I'll do a bit more research first. Thanks for the info anyway.

Wow! Just want to say thank you to everyone who helped me find information on my Grandpa's family. Through all of this I've found my Grandpa's brother's son (!) on here and Kitty (my Grandpa's sister) phoned my mum earlier tonight! It's the first time in years that my mum has spoken to any of her Dad's family, so it's wonderful that we are all back in touch.
Oh, and Christine, Veronica was definitely Evelyn Veronica - you are amazing!
Thanks again
