You didn't need to know where they were from to find them in the 1851.

All i put into the search was....Richard Hill & Parents names & up they popped :o))

Thank you very much, Julie and Catherine. Fascinating information as I hadn't been able to find them on the 1851 census as I didn't know where they were then living.They just seemed to disappear completely from Liverpool after 1841, although I have been able to establish that Richard Hill ( Robert's son) from whom I'm descended was working as a butcher in Chester at the time of the 1861 census and got married in Chester in 1862 so your information has proved invaluable.

James Sanner is James Tanner & is down as BIL

I'd be grateful for any information at all regarding a Robert Hill ( born c. 1810 ) who was a shoemaker and at the time of the 1841 census was living in Liverpool. He married Elizabeth Tanner in 1834. I'm not certain that either of them was actually born in Liverpool.
