I would be grateful for any help please. I'm looking for information on Sarah Florence Lewis (my grandmother) born on 21 November 1898. I have been looking for her in the 1901 census, which was apparently conducted on 31 March/01 April 1901. This would have made her 1 year and 4 months. All I can find on the census for 1901 is Florence Lewis aged 2. Her parents were Thomas Lewis (1853-1898) and Sarah Headen (1859-1917).

Grateful for any suggestions on where I am going wrong or any additional info that anybody can help me with.

Many thanks.

Carol

Ages are notoriously approximate on censuses.

I assume this is her birth ( you don't give a location)
in which case, buy the certificate and compare it with the parents on the census.

Thanks Michael. Yes, she was born in Birkenhead, sorry for not mentioning that bit. It makes life so difficult when a lot of the official records don't match up.

I've also been trying to find her grave, but that seems to have disappeared off the face the earth as well, despite knowing the grave reference!

Regards.

Your maths is out.

Someone born in November 1898 would be 2 in the 1901 census. The one you've found could be correct.

Of course, don't know what I was thinking. Can't believe I can't even count 2 years!! Thanks for pointing it out. Feel stupid now...
