I am trying to prove that James Carter b. 1812 in Stock Essex is the son of John Carter and Sophia Harridge. He married Sarah Cole and had a son William Carter in 1848. If anyone can help I would be very grateful.

Have you tried a search on this site to see if anyone else is looking for the family, or the IGI on familysearch.org

Thanks Patricia I have that information, William is always listed as staying with his uncle on the 1851 and 1861 census (another William) but I don't know why. Also I have a lot of conflicting information from other people about the uncle so I am hoping someone has the answers. Thanks for your help.
