Hello All, I'm having trouble locating the family of John Edwards. I have the family on the 1911 and 1901 census after which I lose the trail. If anyone can spot them in any of the earlier census I'd be thankful.

Have you got the marriage certificate for his Father's name? Thanks

Hello Michael & Patricia, Sorry, the phone rang and I've just got off. The information I am seeking is for a friend. As far as I am aware he has no cerificates and the only link he has is to Lena Edwards born Newport. The 1881 looked promising but the place of birth for Annie does not match up with the 1901 & 1911 census so I have dismissed it. Thanks for the information. It's just a pity that it's not them. Many thanks Paul

The place of birth for Annie in the 1911 & 1901 are different to each other

Hello Julie, Sorry I should have said it matches neither of the places she claims to have been born and would now offer a third alternative. I know the 1911 & 1901 are correct because of the children. None of the children in the 1881 appear in the 1901 census so this leaves me thinking it's not them. I could be wrong but I don't think so. Many thanks Paul

In the 1911 census it says they have been married 34 years, so marriage about 1876 to 1877. It also says 10 children from the marriage, 4 died. The children that Michael found in the 1881 census could have died, or they could have left home. In fact, as there are 6 children showing in 1911, all the other ones have died. Therefore 1881 cannot be so quickly discounted.

Hello Patrica, Thanks for your reply which is very much appreciated. Although I have dismissed them at the moment, as you say they are the only ones I have come across and have been pointed towards. It's just the information is not strong enough to accept as gospel at the moment and it may be that someone will find more concrete informattion. So until then I am leaving them to one side. Once again many thanks Paul

Hello All, You may all be on to something. I've had a long hard look at the 1891 census and bearing in mind your advice can now see some similarities.
John Edwards maintains a 2 year age difference to that of his wife Annie and his place of birth is consistent in each census.
Annie, wife - where she is born is anyones guesswork at this time.
The children in the 1891 census Ann born Barry 1887 Thomas born Redwick
1901 census George born Bristol Bertie born Wenvoe - a few miles from Barry Rose born 1892 Eastham ***** Manchester Ship Canal****** John born Barry Annie born Barry 1898
So it looks as though my original dismissal was incorrect and with Rose being born in Eastham in 1891/2 it looks like it is the correct family. Many thanks to all for pointing this out. Bye Paul

Thanks for coming back Paul and letting us know that our train of thought wasn't a million miles off.
