Mary Ward and Thomas Prior

Mary Ward born Beetley, Norfolk about 1755, married to Thomas Prior. Children Susannah born about 1788 and Robert born about 1796. Would like to know more accurate dates, whether there were any other children and what happened to susannah? Any help much appreciated.

How do people manage to submit such inconsistent things to the IGI?

Father: Thomas Prior, Mother: Mary

There are two submitted "records" apparently, one having him born & baptized in 1796, one in 1798. Surely if someone has checked parish records it should be obvious what the date was?!

Anyway, they both name Thomas Prior and Mary Ward as parents. Is this the only source you have for Mary's name? It would not have been in the parish baptism record (even her given name might not be), so I wouldn't take it as gospel. ;)

So Mary's surname is on the baptism record! That is *very* unusual (check some of the others). I wonder whether it indicates they were not married.

Susannah 1788 is also there. There are a dozen other Prior births in Tilney in the late 1700s; I checked a few but none were to these parents -- you'll want to look at all of them to be sure.

Search for baptisms, surname Ward, 1790 +/- 10 (or another range), in Norfolk.


edit - the info Maddie has posted below is one of the submitted records in the IGI; that is the one confirmed by the actual parish record transcript above.
