Find Ancestors

Found Grandfather Arthur James Clarke born 1856 (married to Jane). His father is Benjamin (married Caroline late Thomas formerly Butler), this info on Arthur's birth certificate. Benjamin was born 1930 in Birchills, Staffordshire. He was a painter/glazier but I can't find him on any census as a family. I have found (who I am sure is his father) a Benjamin married to Rebecca on the 1861/1851 and 1841 census. Where am I going wrong?

Have you considered that Benjamin jnr may have died before the 1861 census - thus explaining why Arthur was with his grandparents?

Have found Arthur on 1911, 1901 & 1891. He was born 15/06/1856 Stafford St, Walsall. I have the birth cert. I just don't seem to be able to find his father, Benjamin Clarke & mother Caroline on a census listed as a family ie. Arthur as part of that family. I found Benjamin on 1851 census aged 21 as part of the family of Benjamin aged 56 & Rebecca aged 56 from Stafford, Birchills. I've probably got the whole thing wrong! Can you tell me if there are other sites I can visit for info. Thanks in advance.

As Arthur was with his grandparents at the age of 5 - and his father seems to have died in 1862, and his mother clearly re-married to SANKEY, you aren't going to find them together

Don't know which person you are addressing Mary - if it's me - I got my info from Ancestry or the LDS site

I think you'll find that's from 1837 - but don't use GR - n
