hi
are you sure pentreco is not a place in wales and not the name of a house. or is it a house at Meifod, Wales.

I put Pentreco Wales on google and this came up.

have copied and pasted it for you

Tony Woolham, St Dezery, France
My grandfather was taken to visit Meifod by his parents as an infant, around 1876, and the Woolham family carried on the tradition of visiting for at least the next 100 years. As a child I used to stay at Pentrego, before it had electricity or a mains water supply. Anyone interested in Meifod and its history should try to obtain "Meifod - A Century of Change", published to mark the Millenium. Try the British Library

hope that helps

ps google Pentreco on google maps, that does not come up but, Pentre in meiford does, maybe its name changed over the years.

It would be kind of nice to know what the word actually is.

You have PENTECO in the heading and PENTRECO in the body of your message.

Proofread? You can use the Edit link in the lower left of your post to fix whichever one is wrong (or both, if they both are).

Best also to add a new post here to, to say you have made that change.

I tried searching the 1881 Wales census using both words as the address, but there were no results.

http://local.upmystreet.com/picture-of-pentrego-farm-id-352634.html

Name
Pentrego Farm
Description
The view of the farmhouse as seen from the road travelling towards Meifod.

?

In 1881 there is a Jones couple in Meifod, Montgomeryshire, street address Pentrego:

Edward Jones 52 - Farmer Of 130 Acres Employing 2 Men
Ann Jones 45
Joseph E. Jones 12
Mary E. Jones 10
Margret A. Jones 8
David J. Jones 6
Henry R. Jones 4
Sarah M. Jones 2
John Evans 18
Mary Evans 22
Elizabeth Thomas 13

This doesn't seem to match your information.

Do you have an actual year of birth for Charlotte?

JaneyCanuck

JaneyCanuck Report 14 Jul 2010 00:31

Births Jun 1880
JONES Charlotte Jane Llanfyllin 11b 239
Births Mar 1886
JONES Charlotte Winifred Llanfyllin 11b 200

?? Only Charlotte Jones births in that reg dist 1870-1886.

The same household in 1891, address Pentrego, no Charlotte.

Edward Jones 61
Anne Jones 55
Joseph E Jones 22
Mary E Jones 20
Margaret A Jones 28
David J Jones 16
Henry R Jones 14
Sarah M Jones 12
John Owen 27

If you just google PENTREGO you will find masses of stuff. That really is always the first line of attack.

This appears to be the current occupant -- it's a corporation so the info isn't "sensitive" here:

J.D BEST & SON
POWYS, SY21 9DG WELSHPOOL, PENTREGO FARM, GUILSFIELD

Going by that address -- Welshpool -- I might guess that this is your Charlotte in the 1891 census:

Name: Charlotte L G Jones
Age: 12
Estimated birth year: abt 1879
Relation: Daughter
Mother's Name: Sarah
Gender: Female
Where born: Welshpool, Montgomeryshire, Wales ***
[MT, Welshpool]

Civil parish: Ruabon
Town: Ruabon
County/Island: Denbighshire
Country: Wales

Sarah Jones 52 - widow, living on own means
Charlotte L G Jones 12
Margaret Lloyd 28 - servant

An Ancestry user has added the birthplace details to the census record.

Births Mar 1879 ?
Jones Charlotte Louisa G Forden 11b 218

But the household in 1881 again doesn't match with your info:

Civil parish: Trallwmgollen
County/Island: Montgomeryshire

John Jones 50
Sarah Jones 38
Charlotte Jones 2
Margaret Bennett 19
Ann Jones 14
George Pryce 15

In any event, Pentrego Farm appears to be what you're looking for.

The one at Welshpool might be a red herring.

At google maps, search for

Pentrego Farm, Meifod, Powys SY22 6DH, UK

Satellite view will show you details.

Yeah, I guess I figured that "thanks" was meant to do the job, afterthought though it looked.

I guess since Bethan has the 1911 census, she actually has an idea of *when* this Charlotte Jones was born. Why tell us, though?

No Charlotte in the 1911 census answers to "born in PENTRECO".

This one does, though:

DAVIES CHARLOT 1871 40 Swansea Glamorganshire

Seems to be husband Thomas and children Frances Ann, Sarah, Daniel, David Thomas and Isaac.

If only Bethan would tell us what she knows, e.g. where Charlotte is in earlier censuses. I'd looked just now at a David and Sarah couple, David a carpenter, with eldest son Thomas born in Llanelly, but that was just a random guess, I guess. So I've deleted it.

1901

Name: Charlotte Davies
Age in 1901: 30
Estimated birth year: abt 1871
Relation: Wife
Spouse's name: Thomas
>>> Where born: Clydach, Glamorgan, Wales

Civil parish: Clase
County/Island: Glamorgan

Thomas Davies 31
Charlotte Davies 30
Francess A Davies 1

1881 and 1891 census give same birth info. Address in 1881 is 38 Mount Pleasant, Rhyndwyclydach, Pontardawe reg dist.

Not to be found in 1871 though.

Were the children perhaps Sarah's from a previous marriage?

Bethan

Bethan Report 5 Aug 2010 10:45

hi, yes i think that is it. the other children were born slightly later. My dad said that he never heard about a francess but when i looked at the 1911 census this is the only family i could find which had all the other children (my dads aunts and uncles) so im guessing that francess died before my dad was born.
Also in the 1911 census she is down as Charlot. but think that is an error.
i have letters sent to charlottes father david in 1881 from her brother david, so using this i managed to find a family which im pretty sure is hers, father david with mother sarah and siblings which have very similar names to charlottes children.

and janey that 'thanks' wasnt an afterthought it is just the way i write and i am greatful for the research you have been doing
