I know very little except that he had a son named Sidney Taylor born in 1914 in Bristol and his mother was my grandmother, Ruth Taylor, from Worcestershire. This is why I was trying to find out if Sidney Davis died in the great war.

You didn't mention WW1 in your original message

The place to look for war deaths is www.cwgc.org

The fact that he didn't marry the mother of his child means that you have very little chance of identifying him accurately.

Where did his name, birth year and birthplace come from?

If the boy was born in 1914, he would have been conceived well before the outbreak of war, so that doesn't have any bearing on the man's failure to marry Ruth
