She married Ken (Kenneth?) _____? Thomas is her birth surname? (Yes, I see from the births index.)

Anne

Anne Report 29 Jul 2010 08:00

she had a son Robert I think.

Anne, if you would give the *surname* as I indicated ...

Anne

Anne Report 22 Oct 2010 09:04

that's the problem. I don't have his surname.

There are two Doreen M Thomas marriages in Liverpool 1948-1968, but neither is to a Ken(neth).

There were about 30 Doreen M Thomas marriages 1958-1958 [edit - I must have meant 1948-1968!] in England (none but those two in Lancashire), and one could check each one to see the husband's name ...

Any idea *where* she married?

You're welcome, by the way.

JaneyCanuck Report 23 Oct 2010 23:21

Did she have younger brothers (William, Philip, Michael, same mother's surname) and would they be living or have family who would know her whereabouts?

Only one DMT marriage in Cheshire in that 20-year period - again not to a Ken(neth).

Anne

Anne Report 24 Oct 2010 04:30

ahh she referred to a Billy in some letters to my mother. and that he'd "disappeared" in Australia some 15 years earlier.
What mother's name have you got for them? She should be Letitia Josephine Power, Annie and Michael Power's daughter.

Thank you, That's an opening alright.

thanks for all this. I've trawled loads of marriages for her but none is for a Ken.

I'll have to try and build the families for her siblings and her aunt might also have descendants who were in touch although I haven't got very far with her either.

meanwhile must eat and sleep!

FAIRTHORN Report 25 Oct 2010 17:09

Anne 2nd November 2008 22:32

from the Power family in Liverpool of Irish descent.
Thomas Power born Dublin 1837 and Letitia Carroll from Meath 1843.
Mary,1864 married W. Widdows and Kathleen,1875 married William Watts.
A daughter may have married a Henderson but I can't find a record for that.
Doreen Thomas was Michael's(1877) grandaughter, I believe, and cousin to my father James Power (1903 to 1987)
Doreen was born in 1931 and married a Ken, possibly of Chinese descent in Liverpool. Last heard from in Hong Kong in 1983 with " Ken and Robert ". Her brother "Billy' had disappeared in Australia about 1968 and her father, William Thomas died about 1973 presumably in Liverpool.
Any news of any relative much needed.
Thanks.
Anne.

updates are that letitia was coleman not carroll and she was older than stated in census returns. born about 1835
I found margaret was widow of a henderson in 1911 census.
kathleen did not marry W. Watts and I can't find anything for her after 1901 census in service with her sister. No marriage. no death.
Have now found many descendants of Mary and William Widdows and met a few.

Anne Report 25 Oct 2010 19:54

that's helpful. I'm not sure whether I had her mother's death date but she was clearly a bit of an orphan when I knew her.
Her second home was the family home where we met every Xmas from the age of about 8. I guess her father re-married to deal with the babies. She was clearly never very happy.
Will resume searching.

have realised that my Genes tree isn't often updated cos i don't find it all that easy. I have 3 trees on Ancestry which has always been easier to operate so that's where all the latest information would be on Power tree and Ward and Charlton trees.
Have been updating Doreen's family and searching the records on Ancestry.

Will try to update the Genes tree soon as I can.

I moved to London when I was 21 but Doreen visited my parents from time to time and finally sent a calendar the year my mother died in 1983 with no address, saying she Ken and Robert were going to Hong Kong. On a visit some years before she told my mother she was going to marry a Chinese man in Liverpool. Something else may have happened of course.
Thank you again.
Anne.

Anne, it isn't appropriate to put the names of living people and their personal details on the boards here. You should edit your post to remove the names of the (possible) spouse(s) and children.

The reason I didn't put Doreen's brothers' birth details in my earlier post is that I was unable to confirm a death for any of them, so must assume they are living as well, so their personal details here aren't really appropriate either.

It isn't actually even permitted to put living people in your tree without their permission. If one of their immediate family here does have them in their tree, i.e. with their permission, you will be able to find them yourself when you do a tree search. (Using the "hide living people" function in a family tree at this site does not hide them from tree searches, it only hides their details from someone actually viewing your tree.)

Since no family member is ever likely to search these discussion boards for these names and details, putting them here serves no purpose anyway.

What is often suggested is that you look on Facebook, especially for the younger generations.

Anne

Anne Report 3 Dec 2010 11:15

Many thanks. I've never understood the "hide living people" thing.
Must check my whole tree collection. Though I have requested that facility.

Have removed the people you mentioned here.

Is there anywhere that I can advertise for living people? Cos I did have a wonderful find 3 years ago via a Genes reunited appeal.

As for Facebook, I can't bear it!

thanks
Anne.

I can't disagree about Facebook, believe me. ;)

There have been quite a few successes here, though, with people finding the ones they're looking for via Facebook pages. Don't rule it out! Often a google search for a name, like this:

"Mary Ann Smith" facebook

will find something.

Anne

Anne Report 3 Dec 2010 18:42

OK thanks Janey.

I may try that. But must tidy my trees first.

Anne.
