Charles Report 2 Aug 2010 23:54

My dad is Charles Divers, born in Uddingston Glasgow in 1940.
My grandfather was Joseph Divers of Uddingston Glasgow born 1910 (approx) this is all we know about him as he died very young and my dad was taken away from the area and never knew his fathers side of his family.
My gran was Catherine Hoey from Motherwell, born 1914.

Any information an possible relations would be gladly welcomed for my dad to know somethings about cousins - close or distant.

Thank you in advance.

I think this is probably the listing for your grandfathers birth on Scotland'sPeople...Unfortunately it is not available to view on-line as it is after 1909. You could buy a copy from the site but this would cost £10.

Aileen, this is absolutely fantastic stuff, i can't thank you enough, you obviously know how to work these sites very well.
Was i doing something wrong to not find any of information?

I can't wait to call my dad in the morning to tell him!!!

Aileen Report 5 Aug 2010 23:08

Glad to have been able to help..... I don't think you would have been doing anything wrong other than perhaps not making your searches wide enough..eg year of birth + or - 3yrs when searching for births, deaths etc and Diver* as the * will give any name with the preceding letters plus any after eg the s for Divers ....this is also useful for Mc and Mac names putting the * after the M gives both.... I have been doing family tree research for a few years now so I know the most ecomomical ways to search Scotland'sPeople through experience.
I would suspect there will be more brothers and sisters for your grandfather but there are too many other possibilities to look at them all.
If you live in Scotland you can go to your local registrar's and they will search for you for the more recent records that are not available on-line ie births after1909 marriages after 1934 and deaths after 1959......there is a charge for this which varies I think but usually £10-15 for an hour. They wont print anything of for you so pen and paper are essential.
If not try using the Record Office and ask if anyone is going to Register House in Edinburgh who could perhaps look up specific records. You could look in the phone book for Divers still in Uddingston or place an advert in the local paper and maybe find some living relatives.

Aileen
