Thanks for all this - I have all the certificates mentioned above, except the Brackley Frank J, who does not belong to our family. The other people with Rosalind Evans in their trees got their information from me, but I hadn't thought of searching for the 3 children's details, so will give that a go.

Hi Lynette, a couple of things......if you put the name Rosalind Twitchett into the search box above, you will see that a couple of other people have her in their tree. It may be worth contacting the tree owner for further info. It's a pity you don't know his place of birth which could narrow things down for you.

Also, here is the marriage reg for Alfred and Rosalind - if you send for the certificate it should verify his date of birth etc. This information is taken from freebmd.org and is a free site to search.

Marriages Dec 1919 (>99%)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Evans Alfred W Twitchett Sudbury 4a 2321
Twitchett Rosalind V Evans Sudbury 4a 2321

Below are several births (taken from freebmd) which have the father's name as Evans and the mother's maiden name as Twitchett - I guess your three are in there but there is one which probably isn't yours.

Births Jun 1920 (>99%)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Evans Frank J Twitchett Brackley 3b 6

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Births Sep 1920 (>99%)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Evans Constance J Twitchett Lambeth 1d 668

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Births Sep 1923 (>99%)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Evans Frank H Twitchett Croydon 2a 639

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Births Jun 1925 (>99%)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Evans Marjorie M Twitchett Yarmouth 4b 51

Also worth putting any of the names you know into the search trees in case there is a connection on here.

Hope someone else can help a bit more. Cx

Not getting anywhere with this, so here's another thought.
I have a photo of Alfred taken about 1924. Is there any way I can use it to see if someone somewhere recognises him? I'm beginning to think he might have used a false name and that perhaps his marriage to Rosalind was bigamous. There is a family story about her going to court in London but refusing to give him a divorce. Where would I look for records of this? I can't find anything on the National Archive website (except for one who turned out to be the wrong person).

I have tried Search Trees but there are no Alfred Williams and if I just look for Alfred without William there are far too many.
I agree that Bubbles sounds like a nickname but every little clue might help.

Alfred William Evans married Rosalind Twitchett in1919 in Belchamp, Essex. He said he was 40, an electrician, and his father was Frank William Evans, Civil Engineer. They had 3 children but Alfred left the family in Gorleston, Great Yarmouth in 1925/6. I cannot find him either before or after this marriage; he is believed to have been in another relationship and to have had a child called Bubbles. Can anyone help please?
