The year is right, but he may have been illegitimate and adopted, so I dont know what his birth name may have been. Is there any where that I can check out adoptions?

I am trying to locate any information on Douglas Walker, my paternal grandfather. He was born April 1899 in or near Sydney. He may have been adopted so I dont know what name his birth was registered under, he may have been illegitimate.
