Flora Report 20 Aug 2010 15:57

Hi,
The relation Im having problems tracking down is William Llewellyn (born 1867 in Llangan). In the 1901 Census he is living with his wife Hannah and children Martha, David, Edith, William and Margaret. Also named in the house is Martha Llewellyn (widower aged 87) who is his grandmother. I dont seem to be able to find Williams parents and was wondering if anyone can help me?

Thanks!

Flora

It would seem that where Martha is listed as Grandmother on 1891 it is to mean Grandmother of the children in the house I have seen it many times before like that, and I strongly believe that she is in fact Williams mother ,although a little old at 49/50 ish to be giving birth, but it did happen as my own gran was 48 when she had her last child...

Unless of course she really is his Grandmother and therefore he must be one of her daughters son and he is down on 1871 as SON to save face..!

This cert will verify his fathers name and occupation(I hope)

Flora on the 1901 census Martha is actually the Head and lives next door. It says nothing about her being a Grandmother!

FannyByGaslight

FannyByGaslight Report 20 Aug 2010 16:33

But it does on 1891 Susan,so it looks as though Flora has her census years muddled, easily done...

Flora you have posted this 4 times (on one I've duplicated a couple of things). Please don't post more than one thread on the same subject.

I think I found a different 1871 but the one above probably correct:

Posted 5 times Jan.!

Flora it really is not done to post more than one thread on a family.
We all look at all the boards and as you can see people are asking the same questions on each and pretty much coming up with the same things until told that others are working on it elsewhere.
It truly is a waste of time for the helpers on here.

There are posts by GenesReunited Stickied on the Surname board

HOW TO USE THE 'SURNAME INFORMATION' BOARD

and Trying to Find

at the top of each and if you read them they set out the guidelines for posting to try and get help.

Hi Everyone,

I am sorry for posting my message in different places! - this is all a bit new to me and I wasn't sure who looked at which boards and how often, so sorry if I made more work for people - it wasn't intentional!
Thank you so much for all of your help! I had found his marriage to Hannah Howells and got the certificate but unfortunately the father's occupation and name are both blank. I'm not sure if this is quite common or what the reason would be for this being blank?
Thank you for all the reasearch - I will see what else I can find now!

The absence of a father's name probably means he is illegitimate. Do the witnesses offer any clues? Often family members.
