Charles Anderson - Hobart/Sydney, Australia

Hi,
I'm looking for any descendants or information on Charles Anderson, born in Sweden between 1835-1840. 'Married' Jane Anderson (born Cambridge, England around the 1830s) in Hobart, Tasmania, Australia 1861 (though no formal marriage found). First child Hannah Louisa Anderson was born in Launceston, Tasmania in 1861 but died in 1862 in Morven, Tasmania. Charles and Jane thereafter came to Sydney and two more children were born - Ann Elizabeth in 1866 and Ida Jane in 1873 . Jane remarried in 1874 after being widowed, but it seems - according to my research - that Charles died anywhere between 1866 and 1873. Have found a death for a Charles Anderson in 1867 but don't know if this is him, though the age is the same. I'd appreciate any help or suggestions. Thankyou, Jan.

Jane's remarriage?

725/1874
ABEL LOUIS
ANDERSON JANE
SYDNEY

Are you looking for info about her? The marriage certificate might name parents and give her age.

Is this the death in question?

159/1867
ANDERSON CHARLES
AGE 32 YEARS
DIED SYDNEY
SYDNEY

Unfortunately it does seem no parents were named. However, the certificate should give other family info - wife and children - which would confirm that it is your Charles, or not. No other way to find out.

Except -- people usually recommend, instead of paying the huge fee for a certificate, getting a transcript, e.g. from Joy Murrin (google her name), for half the cost.

For info too, second husband's death, and death of a son?

168/1911
ABEL LOUIS
58 YRS SYDNEY
SYDNEY

16220/1931
ABEL LOUIS W
father LOUIS
mother JANE
SYDNEY

I don't see a death for Jane, though.

Oh goodness -- she didn't let the grass grow under her feet!

447/1911
THOMPSON ALFRED
ABEL JANE
SYDNEY

... but was it shortlived?

46/1911
THOMPSON JANE
6O YRS SYDNEY
SYDNEY

If so, again, no parents' names -- but there could be on her marriage certificate to Abel, e.g.

Hi Janey and Ingrid,
Thankyou very much for your replies - sorry I'm a bit late getting back to you but my internet wouldn't connect for some reason. I agree that Jane certainly didn't waste much time in remarrying each time! I have most of the details you both mentioned - thankyou for that. The death in 1911 you mentioned, Janey, I don't think is Jane as her age in 1911 (a/c to the marriage cert) was 66 (but then her age changed frequently!). Will check that out anyway as you never know. I'm particularly interested at the moment in Charles' death details - I applied for a death transcript (1867/159) but unfortunately it has 'unknown' against father, mother and marriage! That Charles was buried on 4th January, 1867 in Camperdown Cemetery, Sydney. To make matters more confusing, I researched the Benevolent Asylum records in Sydney re Ida Jane Anderson who was born there and according to their records it seems her father may have been Adam Archbold! Thanks again for your help and any other thoughts would be gratefully received!! Jan
