The witnesses names were H. Leach and M. Dixon., names which unfortunately don't mean anything to me. |

Yes, they were living in Birkenhead in 1901. If you look at James' dob, he was born the year they were married, which probably means Elizabeth was already pregnant. Could this be why they eloped, and fabricated the details? I believe that you couldn't marry without your father's permission before you were 21 in those days. |

They probably used the same address to save the cost of two sets of Banns....not by any means unusual. |

I'm hoping that someone can help me out with a mystery I have come across whilst researching my Great Grandmother, Elizabeth Thompson. She married Reuben Blakeway on 1/06/1890 in Liverpool, and I ordered a copy of their Marriage Certificate so that I could find the name and occupation etc of her father. When it arrived it stated that Elizabeth was 21 and Reuben was 22, but they were actually 17 & 19 years old respectively. Her father was listed as Thomas Thompson, a stonemason, but I cannot find a Thomas with a daughter, Elizabeth on any of the Census forms. Eliz and Reuben were both on the marriage cert as living in Soho Street, Liverpool and it makes me wonder if they 'ran away' to marry, and lived together while the banns were read etc. Could this be why some details are incorrect? (Reuben's father's name and occupation were correct) If anyone could help, I'd be very grateful. This little puzzle is driving me mad!! |
